Do you think the Lord hides knowledge from selfish people so they can’t exploit unselfish people any more than they already do?

For example, perhaps some parts of the Bible are symbolic and can only be understood with the Lord’s help.

I believe that the bible is written in such a way that those with a heart and mind for truth will find it and those who have a heart and mind that is not really seeking for truth will be deceived.

I just discovered this:

[25] At that time Jesus declared, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes;
[26] yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will. Matt 11:25-26 RSV

e23,

Yes, and the next verse witnesses even more to this revealing.

Matt 11:27
27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. KJV

It is Jesus who reveals the Father to us.

True spiritual knowledge is given to those who tremble at his word and walk in the fear of the Lord. Those that received not the love of the truth that they might be saved God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.

Yes, the bible is a coded book and oftentimes depicts literal things, events and prophecy symbolically. The justification for that is found in the book of Daniel. Even Daniel was told he was not given understanding until the time was right:

And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

I must admit I get upset when a symbolic interpretation of the bible is challenged by the those who want a literal passage that justifies that interpretation. Of course there is no passage that may directly say that, but inferred by the context and by fulfilled prophecy that occurs later. An example is the meaning of different numbers in scripture. There is no passage that says "5 means thus and so, ten means this and 40 means that" etc etc but we can ascertain the meanings by virtue of the context. For example, whenever there's testing and trial, the number 40 is oftentimes associated with it. It is coded by virtue of the context.

Excellent summary, Sam!
