If the beast ruled the world then why doesnt this verse say the world was full of darkness ?
Insted it reads his kingdom as if he only rules a kingdom.

I get what your saying, but here is the simple fact of the matter. The world IS his kingdom.

He is referred to as the 'prince' and 'ruler' of the world as we know it.

I think this passage is referring to the the hardening of the hearts as described in 2 Thessalonians;

2Th 2:9-12 "The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

Satan's kingdom, the world system, does not believe in the truth. Therefore they will all receive the bowl of wrath that, in essence, drives them crazy. That is the gnawing of their tongues. Have you ever been so frustrated with something that you actually bite your tongue. I find it interesting that a lot of times when I see kids intently working on something they will often stick out their tongue.
