I recently read this article:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ ... TPScience/

In it, it documents a tribe of people in the Amazon, who apparently are unable to learn basic math, have no concept of numbers, and also have no words for colours.

They have no written language, no art, no history past a few generations, and communicate mostly by singing, whistling, humming. They do have speech, but they rarely use this.

I was intrigued by this article, as I seem to remember blueeyeliner specifically state that humans were so amazingly different from animals, because of their ability to write, count, and communicate effectively with speech. But apparently this tribe is an exception in blue's amazing argument that humans are so much smarter than animals, that they aren't even animals...

I eagerly await blueeyeliners subsequent derailment and attack.

I posted this article in another forum and was called a racist. :o

On the other hand, I said these people were "hardly human", so maybe I deserve it.

Similar learning difficulties happen to children who are abused, neglected or ignored in there younger years.

Children who have little/no contact with others ("wolf babies"), and later come into contact with others, have very difficult times learning languages, syntax, mathematics. While they advance slightly, the all seem to hit a wall.

Scientists now generally believe that our advanced abilities (math and language) are a one-shot deal, and a child's developing brain is that one shot.

Because their "problem" was only indicated by adult males, it is highly likely that the children could be raised to understand those capabilities without problem.

What is interesting is animals have similar "one shot" learning opportunities, which is why reintroducing wild animals after capitivity has such problems.

It seems our "higher intellegence" isn't just a blessing, but a passed down capability in which nature has given us a small window of opportunity.

Sometimes it is a little scary to see the boundaries of our ability to think. The best site I have seen for showing the oddities of our brain is at http://www.ebonmusings.org/atheism/ghost.html. The guy is presenting the information to show that a soul makes no sense, but the case studies are amazing if you want to ignore the overall message.

This reminds me of a statistic that states a child's learning curve is established by the age of 5. This is a great reason to establish a universal pre-kindergarten program. The problem is, it will cost a lot of money, and the benefits won't be seen for 10, maybe 20 years. So most politicians won't see it as something benificial to them since the benefits will probably happen after they are retired, especially if that politician is a president, limited to 2 terms.

:P Have any of you ever taken into account how the many
different races were formed?
I believe the bible account is the only possible account that could
make any sense.
The people were from one race and one language at one time.
After the shameless display the people made of themselves by
worshiping false gods/goddesses at Babel,God confused their
languages. It certainly makes great sense because if you haven't
noticed by now,it's very strange to think that certain Geographical
locations could change our DNA and make us a certain race of people
without God.Why does the fact that our ancestors having come from
a certain nation or country affects our genetics? It's very strange
that a location could make one race different than another don't you
think? Yet,thats what we have.
Why are Jewish people Jewish people? Blood or location? Which came
first? Face facts people,God is real!

This is exactly what Evolutionary Theory tells us. That geographic separation will cause different groups of people to be different! That's why we have chinese, middle eastern, native american, and european types of races.

Face facts people,God is real!

No, he's not.

No, he's not.

TOE couldn't possibly have anything to do with it,because
TOE claims that we all share a common ancestor from the animal kingdom
and that we are more alike than we are.
The Bible says we all came from the same blood and the same ancestor
of the human race. The bible explains how we got our races, but evolution
cannot tell anyone how it happened.
EVOLUTION has not been proven and it has no witnesses.
If God isn't real, then prove it!
I know he is,but maybe you can fool the simple minded?

Oh the irony! :smt005

:smt038 Do you know what the word irony means?
You cannot tell someone like myself that God isn't real,so
whats your point? God is real, just because you haven't got
to that realization yet, someday you will. Darwin may already
know that God is real by now?
Every knee will bow,even yours,amen.
Tell us what irony means o.k? You shouldn't use words like that
if you don't understand them.

Come on blue, it's not hard. Geographic differences, environmental pressure different skin tones, body shapes and so on to deal with said environmental pressure, all included in an evolutionary analysis of racial differentiation. Indeed evolution predicts that the place where humans originated will have the oldest groups of humans and thus more variation. Guess which continent has the largest ethnic diversity.

:usa Syntax, My ancestors fled from the tyrants that tried to control
people and wouldn't allow them to believe in The God of the holy bible
like they wanted to,so they came to America.
I could not even amagine why you believe in TOE,but I cannot.
I want to live my entire life for the man known as Jesus Christ.
He is my life.

Perhaps you would believe it if you took the to actually learn what Evolution entails. You don't have to give up Jesus, God, etc to believe in it.

:smt035 This smilie is funny, don't you think? Great humor there.
Yes, Syntax.,I know you don't have to stop being religious or a christian
to believe in TOE,but I just don't.
I have studied it,and I just don't believe in it.

What books have you read?? What websites do you visit that explain the scientific theory of evolution?

For the way you attempt to argue against evolution you obviously do not have a well rounded understanding of the scientific theory, but have simply read the strawman version proliferated on creationist websites.

EVOLUTION has not been proven and it has no witnesses.
Its funny, its one of the most used quotes by creationists, yet they never stop to consider it works in return "God has not been proven and has no witnesses". I'm always amazed that someone can say "you believe in something with no evidence" then turn around and do just that.

If God isn't real, then prove it!
Its one of the hardest things to do, disprove an invisible being who has no physical effect on this world. Just as its hard to disprove Allah, Buddha, Zeus, souls or invisible pink unicorns, the difficulty doesn't prove it right, just that its simple discription of invisible makes it nigh on impossible.
The only way to prove a god wrong is by showing the errors in the teachings, in the churches or in the beliefs. If we could show the Bible was a fake and that was the basis of all your beliefs then that by itself would disprove God.
And thats where atheists and christians disagree, non-believers see the Bible as an unstable base for beliefs while christians see it as the unfailable word of god.

:smt035 I have read enough books about this subject to get me
very tired of it,and if it were not for the innocent baby christians I
wouldn't even bother to debate with you.
Do you realize that I am always asked that same question by evolutionists
slash/ atheists when they can't make me believe them?
I cannot believe in TOE because I know God is real and the way I read the
bible tells me even more how false that fable is,amen.
I don't have to keep going over this same arguement with you all the time
over and over again. You are just buying time and trying to impress the
idea of TOE on everyone you view as weak in their faith.
YOU HAVE NOT SEEN WHAT I HAVE SEEN AND YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT
I KNOW,SO THEREFORE YOU CANNOT JUDGE MY VIEWS!!!
I on the other hand know what your claim is,and not only studied it for
the benefit of my fellow brothers and sisters so they wouldn't listen to it,but I also know the bible has warned us against these fables.
