How can a person call themselves a Christian if they believe there are other ways to eternal life with God?????? (ie: Oprah) :screwloose

There are three reasons. The first is that a person really is a Christian (truly trusts in Jesus for their salvation) but has picked up a load of bad doctrine. The second is that a person does not understand what being a Christian means. The third is that they are a tool of Satan held captive to do his will.

We live in an age that is the culmination of many of Satan's plans. Society has been collectivized to a level never even dreamed of by most tyrants. The evangelism of schools to convert the world to the religion of secularism is almost complete. Christians are so fearful of social ostracism that they endorse almost anything to avoid making someone feel bad.

Over the centuries, most Christians have come to see their religion as a matter of a doctrinal statement. This is similar to reducing faith to a willingness to acknowledge that a person called Jesus once existed as an historical figure. Christianity has been gutted from the inside.

If we look at ourselves we can ask, "Where is the passion for the Lord, where is the courage to speak the truth, where is our discernment of what is right and wrong"?

Instead we have exchanged truth for a sort of "warm and fuzzy" feel good self-stimulation.

Jesus rightly asked if when He returned He would find faith on the earth.

Ned, that reminded me of some lyrics from a song by Casting Crowns called, "What if His People Prayed."

What if the life that we pursue
Came from a hunger for the truth
What if the family turned to Jesus
Stopped asking Oprah what to do

Just because they call themselves a Christian does not make them one. Especially oprah. :nono

Well then I don't think they're Christian. People who call themselves Christian aren't necessarily Christians. They may have once been Christians, but have been led astray by false teachings.

I can call myself a double whopper with cheese. It doesn't get me on the value meal at Burger King.

Anyone can call themselves Christian. Big deal. Doesn't make it true. While I'm a firm believer that you can be genuinely saved even with some fruity beliefs, I think the notion that Christ is the only way to salvation is pretty fundamental to Christian belief. Christ says that no man comes to the father but through Him. Seems pretty basic.

The squishy, feel-good theology that some "churches" embrace, such as the Unitarian Universalists don't preach the gospel, and typically treat Christ as a second class deity, placing every other "god" above Him. How do I know this is the case? My Aunt is a "Priestess" at one such UU church. I pray she realizes her errors before it's too late.

I pray for her and everyone else there, as well. :praying
