It all depends on how you use it.It can be very useful and necessary.But your sarcasm is going nowhere here.
I know that. where I live we can look to our past from our frontier days with not to much difficuilty. where there is a short drive from a street to the schools was once back about 110 years is an old school for few homes as those were in isolation from the rest of the town. yet its but a ten minute ride. homes of that era had fire places and no utilities. those still stand.
. I don't have to buy firewood. I find pallets when I can . I don't need that for heat.

This is why fire typically spreads upward, and it's also why flames are always "pointed" at the top.
