How much can God invole himself in the affairs of men.

I often hear it said, God is in control, its all in Gods hands, how much control does God have?

for an example we see Jesus born, then Joseph and Mary are warned to remove Jesus, to Eygpt.
using the provision of gold from the wise men , they leave,

Herods soliders come, and put every male child 2years old and younger to the sword in Bethlehem.

was this mans plot, satans plot using Herod to execute this plan, to kill Jesus.

Later we see Jesus speaking of such a tribulation, that unless God shortened those days,
no one would survive. speaking of the end times, some feel we are now in,

God has 100% control over everything! The question is, does HE exert that control 100% of the time or is HIS will and foreknowledge beyond our comprehension? I don't question why He does or doesn't do things. All I know is this:

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Like Vic said, God is in total control.

Herod searching for the Child Jesus to murder Him was a working by Satan. All throughout the OT Books down to the time of Christ's birth, Satan continually attacked the family lineage that Christ would be born through. He tried to stop Christ being born through woman's womb. In the Garden of Eden influencing Cain against his brother Able was his very first attack of Christ's family lineage.

When Abraham and his wife Sarai went into Egypt, Abraham feared for his life because of Sarai's beauty. Abraham figured when they saw her they'd kill him, and take her. Abraham told Sarai to tell them she was his sister, as they indeed were half-sister and half-brother. Pharoah's house inquired about her, and gave many gifts to Abraham as her brother, and then took Sarai into Pharoah's house to wed her. God then brought great plauges upon Pharoah's house, and caused Pharoah to release her back to Abraham (Gen.12). The same thing happened again in Gerar with king Abimelech (Gen.20).

That was a working of Satan's influence in trying to break up the family line that Christ was to be born through. But as it turned out, Abraham and Sarai left those places unharmed with much wealth, showing God's protection over them. That's why we should never forget that the devil is constantly trying to devour God's people on earth, but that God controls the final outcome.

God's judgments upon nations and even Israel at times per history of the OT was for the purpose of pruning out the dead branches among His people. That pruning is still going on today, and He has already shown us in His Word that He often uses the devil as His punishing rod (Isaiah 10). We are to see the devil as nothing more than a punishing stick plucked off a tree that once the whipping is done, it will be thrown away (into the fire). If we follow The LORD in what He says to do, and don't refuse Him through His Son, then we have no need to worry about that smoldering fire brand Satan.
