Tuesday 7-9-24 3rd. Day Of The Weekly Cycle, Tammuz 2 5784 20th. Summer Day

From Hebrew to Greek, Yeshua became Iesous (Ιησοῦς), a Greek adaptation for which there was no direct phonetic equivalent in Greek for the Hebrew sounds. As Christianity spread into the Roman world and the Greek name was Latinized to Iesus. Finally, during the translation of the Bible into English, Iesus became Jesus.

The whole name is Yehoshua - "God saves", Yeshua for short; in medieval Latin further shortened to Yesu, then in English the Y was replaced with J, so you got Jesu, that's what he was called in Shakespeares plays; and interestingly, the only one who ever uttered his name in a Shakespeares play I can remember was Richard III the usurper.
