I've been out of the loop for a short while. The Lord let me know that I was to move so I did. I'm a buckeye again, lol.

Anyway, as I was driving back from Colorado, a thought occurred to me, a question in fact. Being still without a desktop or laptop and only have this dumb phone, I have an esword deficiency, lol...

What is the difference between righteousness and holiness?

This is weird Brother Edward, I was just thinking of you today. Are you saying that you no longer live in Colorado? Good to see you back anyhow.

First, as an itinerant person, I hate staying put but I also hate packing up and moving and then unpacking and setting things up.
So basically I am never happy.

Then holiness is a state of being. It's actually bad grammar to begin with. It is active tense as holy....you can't say holying just like you can't say holiness.

It's like saying something is burning...automatically you understand that whatever is burning is going to be hot and possibly flaming but also being destroyed because it is burning.

Now holy is a state of being set apart for special purpose. Kinda like the difference between sandwich bread and the shew bread set in the Temple. One is common and the other is holy.

Second, something that is holy must be pukarat. If it's golden then its 24 karat.
If it's a heart...that means not only good but single minded and passionate for God.
If it is used in reference to something like a system...like nature...that means that it is reactive to error as in destroying it.
Lastly, mostly because I'm running out of brain cells, is that if it is holy then it must be good or righteous.

That's exactly what I mean Brother, I live in my hometown of Columbus Ohio again now.

I like living in Colorado and honestly did not want to move back here again. But I thought about Jonah being swallowed by the whale for not going to Ninivah as instructed...:couch

So here I am!

Set apart? How can that be with "be ye Holy, even as I am Holy..."??

Christ came to Earth as a man with a special purpose... Not a common purpose. As such He was set apart from the common man in function and behaviors. Sure He did many things that we do...had a job, got paid, paid bills, ate dinner, got tired, got harrassed and etc. But He never forgot or relented from achieving his goals...which were not the same as anyone else's goals. As such Christ was special... And so became every disciple and Apostle.

Edward,

I see where you have moved back to Columbus OH. I hung around that region for a few years in the 1980s. I'm a graduate of Ashland Theological Seminary, Ashland OH (an old order Amish community).

Now concerning your topic of righteousness vs holiness.

To gain an understanding of the Greek word that is translated by the English, 'righteousness', in the NT, I suggest you read this article, 'On justice vs. "righteousness"' where there is an excellent exposition of the word, dikaiosune (righteousness/justice) by Nicholas Wolsterstorff (Patheos, July 29, 2014).
