My spirits are lifted, and this song is appropriate! :)

And, Acapella! The best way to sing, IMHO.

But, my favorite.... (but you'll usually only hear it in the CoC.

At first I thought you were talking about the one Angel posted. I just listened to this one and your right, I haven't heard it before. But I sure like it! I wonder if I can get my church to sing it?

One i have not heard for a long time...

Ahhh, memories of my mom, RIP! This was one of her favorites to sing around the house while she was doing housework. So of course, it became another of my favorites too. What wonderful memories it brings!

What's the name of that hymn? "Exalted"? "Our God He is Alive"? I've recorded it and will be adding it to the background CD that I play before and after our church services.

It's "Our God, He is Alive". I think it was written in 1962. (It's also known as 728B, because that was the page it was added to in the already published church song books.)

I was talking about the one Angel posted... and then I added my favorite one. I spent 12 years in the CoC, and although there is no way I could ever go back to that cold kind of legalism, I fell in love with the music there. It is all, 100% Acapella, and the multi part harmony and countering is sometimes out of this world.

I'll always be thankful to the CoC for not only their style of music, but also for the rock solid foundation I got in the scriptures while I was there. In the 25 years since I left that church, I have never run across even one denomination that so diligently studies the scriptures. Sadly, they interpret a lot of it kind of haywire, but they sure learn it as firmly as we learned the multiplication tables in school..

Oh. that one I've heard sung in two out of the three churches I've attended regularly for the last 15 years. Neither were CoC. One was Baptist and the other is non-denominational.

I like the acapella singing too when it is an appropriate time and song for it. I don't buy into the idea at all that it is a command of God to only sing that way, but it's certainly got it's place. The church I work at now sang Silent Night acapella on Christmas Eve and it was amazingly beautiful, even for a bunch of amateurs. I had a recording of it posted somewhere on the internet. I'll have to look for it now.

Here's a style of hymn I'll bet not many of you are familiar with.
One of my wife's college roommates is really into this kind of music.

Oh yeah. I've heard that style before. Just not that particular one. It sounds great sung by a choir that actually has talent like the one in your recording!

The surprising thing is that I have never seen a CoC that had a choir. Some may, somewhere, but for the vast majority, it is nothing but the congregation doing the singing.

Do you know if that recording is a choir or just a congregation. When you listen closely, you can hear some real talent in there. I've never heard a congregation sing like that! Please send some of them to my church!!!

When i was a kid us kids sang a lot of kids songs....before the Sunday School classes started... Lots of message in those little songs..

No, of course that one is a choir... it says so on the top bar of the video... and they aren't CoC, I don't think. But there are a few CoC congregations that sound almost as good.

.... and, sadly, some of those messages help shape little minds to innocently accept many of the rather fear-based church doctrines and legalistic misconceptions of God that many of us grew up believing. A couple that come to mind, right off the top of my head, are: "Be careful little eyes...." and "Tiptoe, tiptoe, in God's house". There are a few more.... but I really think it is probably children's nursery rhymes that deliver the truly frightening messages.

Ah, you're right. Didn't notice what it said at the top!

They sing this in Lexy's church still, even with the new younger minister but then he was raised Pentecostal.

I was just on a Bible trivia site and this verse can up in Isaiah 60. It reminded me of a song that I learned at Boy Scout camp when I was seven. It made me sad because I'll about bet they don't sing Christian songs anymore.
One line says,
"Rise and shine and sing out His glory, glory, children of the Lord"
