Okay guy's I have downloaded and am checking out the latest build of Windows 10, I did not want to use virtual box, so I just made a partition for it. So who here has tried it,? I have not even started exploring it yet

So Windows 10 isn't that great, I gather?
It's okay but they are still working on it so I am just checking out the latest tech preview build, I have not finished exploring it all.

Cool. I look forward to hearing more!

Does it look an improvement on 8.1 at this stage?

okay, I guess in about a few years , I will be forced to go to that. I wonder how my job will deal with that problem and also the army. both aren't up to speed, the city is far worse. we use itron and that is set up for windows xp only. they didn't buy the upgrades version for the software to allow for newer versions. yup that will go well for them when they have problems. itron makes the machines we use to read and also the meters we read, and the software.

I haven't tried Windows 10, and probably won't. I'm using Windows 8.1 right now, and it's OK. But, I'm really looking forward to migrating to an open source operating system in the future. I'm retired now and have the time to deal with it. Plus, I no longer need some of the Windows features for software that I didn't want to chance losing while I was still using some software designed for Windows.

My first thought is Ubuntu on a dual boot system.

Yup, give linux a go. Try Ubuntu, but also try Mint.

I didn't like windows 8 and I still don't. But I do like what they've done with 8.1 as long as it's on a tablet. I've got an HP tablet with a portable keyboard / dock and I really like it. Even when I use it just as a tablet, it's really easy to get around and it's nice having all the gestures.
I haven't had time to look at Windows 10 but it sounds promising.
One thing I've noticed is this. With Windows 3.1 you had to be a tech to really maintain your pc. Windows 95 made it easier for the end user to do simple things and 98 made it easy for self repair. XP was the first solid OS for an average user and it was easy for technicians. Windows 8 was a whole new beast from a technical perspective where it's easier to get to the placed needed through the command prompt than through the gui. Acutally, they've eliminated much of the administration aspects of Win8 from the gui.

So I'm really curious how Windows 10 will be. Are they brining back some administrative gui, or will those tasks be reserved for real technicians?
