Ever since I moved from Griffin Georgia to Cumming Georgia I have not found a church that "fits". I am more-or-less Baptist (actually I attended a nondenominational Bible church in Michigan for 23 years).

Many of the north Georgia Baptist churches are not friendly to those of us from the north.

Well, I have had my eye on this place:
http://www.lanierumc.org/
I just had become so discouraged that I contemplated going there for some six months now, just didn't think it was worth the effort. Well, today I went to the 9AM traditional service, liked it, stayed for Sunday school and meant to just stay for the music in the contemporary service - but ended up staying for the whole second service!

The place is just so friendly and light-hearted. The music leader gave the sermons, as the pastor was away with his family - I really was encouraged by their sound faith in the Lord!

I've been here three years, it has taken too long to find a church, I SHOULD have visited a different church every week until I found this one.

Cool. Now get them praying about your sister's situation. God has gifted and empowered someone in the group to intercede for you and her.

I am glad you found someplace that you feel you belong.

I am glad to hear that Pizza. Shoot, I have always been a Texan and when I arrived, two of my friends and I were two days early and instead of staying in Columbus, a GI town, we went into Atlanta and rented rooms in a hotel there. The first morning was the only morning i went down for a hot towel shave and almost got myself killed. McElroy and I waited our turn as a stero-type fat hilbilly dressed in his suspenders was getting a hair-cut.

He smoked a cigarette down to about an inch butt and he said to the old, old, white haired man polishing his shoes, "Joe, Ill never forget his name, take my butt and put it out."When Joe had put three fingers on the butt he pulled thye fire off into his fingers." I jumped up and McElroy came up immediately, wrapping his arm around me, whispering, "Bill, this is the deep south," and as we walked out with Mac clamping my arms down I noticed, every man in the Barbar Shop and every man in the lobby was moving towards me and Mac.

We left Atlanta and before my second year in the service was finished I was reenlisting to go to Germany. I was there about a year and believe me, they do not love Bill Taylor, anywhere in Georgia. I sang the Blues and hung out with Blaks and the police in Columbus threaten more than once that if they caught me giving those N____rs another ride to anywhere they were going to throw my dead body into the Chatahuchi River. I will never, willingly, go into Georgia again. It' s not just Yankees they hate, they just ain't hospitable at all. they act like those boys out of the Bronx.

Hi pizza, are good churches hard to find now.

Pizza, I think you'll like the Methodist Church. :)

If you not familiar with Methodist traditions (close, but a little different from Baptist), there will be someone there you can ask. Or, ask me, I'll be glad to chat.

I agree with the assessment, entirely. Yet, precisely where do they need to hear our message of love (or what SHOULD be our message) the most?

I've read that sermon, and listened to him. A good man, but I think he relies upon trying to preach fear more than he does, love. I used to be that way, myself, but I learned that is not the message of Jesus, it is more like the preaching of the old Jews.

Yea, I'm having a good week:

1) Found a church - Sunday morning church was a big part of my life from 1977 to 2011. I just could not find a church here and gave up too quickly. But I have a new church home!

2) My project at the Nuke plant is FINALLY coming together - this is week 15 here and we finally turned on our first trunking site today - it went way better than anyone thought it would - except for me - I KNEW this was not going to be all that bad! And I was right!

3) Someone kissed my car - there is a thread here about this. It was silly, but it helped to start my week off on a positive note! ;)

Please keep praying for my sister and her awful M.S. and for my friend Kurt -that he and his family will come to know our Lord!

Pizza,

I'm glad for you that your life is coming together. I'll pray for both your sister and Kurt's family, and I'll pray that your new church family is spiritually uplifting and personally supportive of you. Having the right church family is so important.

it seems there is a time and a place - spare the rod and spoil the child - the law to arrogant and the gospel[of love] to the humble - did you not see and listen to [Hell's best kept secret] - btw notice as a Catholic I am recommending two Baptists - twinc

The recommendation is not too much of a surprise. I recently visited a local Baptist church I used to attend, and it almost looked like a Catholic church when I walked in.

Washer, I had already listened to (and read), but when it come to those two birds pushing The Way of The Master, Kurt and Ray, I don't even bother to turn their stuff on anymore.

I seriously doubt anyone could have missed the message of Jesus as much as these two guys, So, unless you are telling me they have changed their message of condemnation and fear, I just don't have the time to listen to them.

I am not sure where to post this, so I will post it here, as it is somewhat related.

I am almost afraid to post this, but my nephew has announced that he will get out of his apartment, move into a house, and have his mother (my sister, of course) live with him. The announcement was made a few days ago - I have been timid about talking about it publicly, not sure why. I guess I am nervous he will change his mind.

But I was over there to see Deb today and he came by for his every-other-week grocery shopping detail and he has found a place that is being 'fixed up'. They will rent it together.

You have no idea how much better this makes me feel! :)

And I just got home from church - I almost hate myself for giving up on finding a church many months ago - this one was next on my list, but I just got to where I felt "What is the use? These churches here do not welcome people who once lived in the north."

But this place is totally different....

i think it is good to visit other Churches but if you like this Church and they preach the truth and you like the pastor and the members .i think there stands a good chance this is where you need to be. try the spirits see if they are of God. be sensitive to what is being taught and preached. if it lines up with the word i think you may have found a home.
