If God is so good, why does he allow bad things to happen?

God makes his sun to rise on both the just and the unjust, and sends his rain on the good and on the evil. - Jesus the Messiah
Today I saw a news report, and I was thinking "Why would God allow things to happen?" and also "Why would he let something happen that would impact loved ones".

When this pops up I have 3 questions to ask myself. The first two are alike:

1. Do you know the track record of men?
2. Do you know the heart and conscious of men?
3. Do you know the plans of God?

Sometimes I even wonder if some things that seem bad (e.g. a murder) are actually part of Gods grace. Although, I believe all is a result of a decaying, depraved world. (Christians aren't owed anything, they can get caught in the crossfire of a fallen world).

Like say a murder happens. What if this murder, say of a Christian, is actually God's way of keeping them from worse things on earth. I think the death of David's child is an example. David said "He shall not come to me, but I will go to him." For Christ said "God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."

Or he uses victims, to show the courage, strength, forgiveness, and love. I remember hearing a story of a kid that was molested by two older kids. Years later he forgave them after becoming Christian, and he shared that forgiveness to those that harmed them.

Or perhaps he takes someone out that could be harm to others.

And above all, he is merciful and abundant in grace. But that doesn't mean he's obliged to keep his chastisement suppressed, nor to rebuke consequence.

God gave us the greatest gift ever, His Son and redemption for sin. We live in a fallen world, bad things happen to everyone. Sometimes very bad things like murder, rape, and even worse things. The best thing for Christians is that we have a loving Father who we can turn to in times a crisis that will comfort and care for us. Unfortunately the world does not have such and advocate. I could not make it without Him.

In raising children I've always believed there are two types of parents.
Type 1 believes their role is to protect their children against all possible dangers.
Type 2 believes their role is to teach their children to protect themselves from danger.
