The Implications Of Christmas and the Antichrist
The real implication of Christmas begins at the virgin birth where Jesus Christ is born without original sin. We all know this part of the story but equally because Jesus Christ is also God he also had the same knowledge of Good and Evil that we have. While our knowledge of Good and Evil came about by the sin of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden and passed on to us by birth, Jesus Christ has the same knowledge of Good and Evil by virtue of being God.
Genesis 3:22 (New International Version, ©2010)
22 And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.â€
When God became man as Jesus Christ he retained the only characteristic of both man and God, that being the knowledge of Good and Evil. The ultimate consequence of Christ being both sinless and having the knowledge of Good and Evil is that Christ will not suffer the same judgment of original sin that man has to suffer which is death. Therefore Jesus Christ could have remained on this earth indefinitely while man would have continued to die because of the original sin of Adam and Eve. Equally because Jesus Christ doesn’t have original sin and had the ability to live indefinitely he also wouldn’t have aged at all. For aging is another consequence of death and original sin. We like to imagine a Hollywood caricature of a very old man living forever on earth when in actuality a sinless person would live indefinitely looking youthful. We confuse growing up with growing old, they are two separate events. Jesus Christ did grow up but he never grew old. We don’t grow old we, become old, and a sinless Jesus Christ would have retained his youthful looks indefinitely. Which is exactly why Satan had to find a way to eliminate Jesus Christ for it was becoming apparent that with his youthful looks and miraculous miracles and insightful teachings he was undoubtedly of divine nature.
Another point worth mentioning is that the antichrist, to proclaim that he is God, would need to demonstrate his knowledge of good and evil, his ability to live indefinitely, and he must retain his youthful looks and vigor. These must be the characteristics of the antichrist to qualify him as a candidate that is referenced in the Bible.
Also note: that for a ‘mere’ man to be sinless he would have to resemble man before his fall in the Garden of Eden, which is an existence without the knowledge of Good and Evil. If such a man could be produced (perhaps made by God) he would also have indefinite life with unfailing youthful looks. While this man could be considered to be a candidate to die for man’s sins he would lack the knowledge of Good and Evil to fully comprehend our sin and understand the gravity of our need for salvation. Anyone could cast doubt and aspersions on his act of self-sacrifice as being unduly coerced by those suffering from original sin. So for God to produce another man just to make him into a ‘sacrificial lamb’ would not do. For a candidate to be offered up as a sacrifice for man’s sins would need both to be sinless and still retain the knowledge of Good and Evil to fully understand our sin and accept his role as our savior, such a person could only be God. Jesus Christ was such a person as God becoming man and having the necessary qualifications of a sacrifice for our sins of being both sinless and having the knowledge of Good and Evil (because as God he always had the knowledge of Good And Evil). God could not just make another man to be our substitute sacrifice. That man had to be God as his son Jesus Christ.
God Bless
