Just to get the conversation started: I think iPods are a complete waste money. :D

Anyone have an MP3 or PMP (Portable Media Player)?

I have a 4GB Cowon D2 which has provided endless enjoyment in listening to music, among other things.

I have an 8 GB Philips GoGear iPod wannabe. I don't like it because it uses Windows Media Player to load on music and I hate using both Media Player and Windows. I would never have bought it if I knew this ahead of time. It works well enough, but I would rather it just load on the songs using a file manager instead of using an SQL database. Fortunately 8 GB is enough that I don't have to load it very often.

I'm not a big fan of Windows or WMP either. The D2 has both MTP and MSC modes for loading files and Cowon has their own file managing software. But, until a firmware change allows for it, Windows XP is the only way to create playlists other than the dynamic playlist.

I do have a 4GB sdhc card (for 8GB total) and I am waiting until the 16GB ones come down to a reasonable price (currently $99.00 US and $120.00 CDN are the best deals I can find), which should be fairly soon since the 32GB ones should be out early next year.

I have a simple 1GB MuVo from Creative. It has some usless programsthat it makes you install, but it have served me better than my lil bro's ipod. Mine works fine, plays fine, and is easy enough to use.

I think its better getting a memory card for your phone (if it plays mp3 and has a memory card slot) rather than buying a separate mp3 player. It's more convenient that way.

I have a zune and it is pretty cool...I also have a memory card for my phone so I can play music but my zune does things that my phone does not. You can load movies and music videos to it, pivtures, it has a radio, it has podcasts, you can send music to people with it so long as they have a zune, it can wirelessly sync to your PC...etc. I don't think that it is practical for everyone but my school is 12 hours away from home and I am in a traveling singing group so i travel a lot and get bored so it fun to play with.

I got a cheap Mp3 player that is pretty much broke..

I think that ipod's are bought mostly for the name.. ALTHOUGH the new touchscreen Ipods are pretty cool and if I had the money I would definitely get it..

I just got the 80 gig Zune and it syncs right up to Car through Microsoft's Active Sync (USB port in the center console)! It's way cool! Although I haven't figured out how to play my podcasts through Active Sync, so I just use the line in interface.

Before the Zune and the Active sync, I used to have to download what I wanted to listen to, and then convert it and burn it to cd. I was going through cd's like crazy!

yea i agree on you on this one, ipods waste your money. you can get more memory, better quality things in the mp3 player then you do in ipods, and they look cooler.

Well, I'm kinda new to this whole IPOD thingy. Like I said, I used to download all my MP3's and convert them to CDA so I could listen to them in the car.

Since I've gotten my zune, I can subscribe directly to a POD cast and when I sync my Zune, it automatically downloads my subscriptions.

On the other hand, I've got a friend that has an MP3 player, and he has to do the manual download and sync to his MP3 player.

Another cool thing about the Zune is I can download movies to it as well. I'm actually impressed with how clear the screen is!

Ohh, and I can store all of my pictures on it too :D

I've got the Sony MP4 player. It cost me 100$. It has Video/MP3/Picture/Fm Tuner. Its got 2GB of internal memory (not expandable) Plus its a SONY ! 8-)

That's a pretty nice Sony! (I've always like the Sony brand)
I'm a bit behind the times with all this mp3 stuff, tell me, can you subscribe to podcasts?

Here's a picture of the 80 gig zune.

I'm amazed at how clean the screen is, even when watching a movie! It's like HDTV! I could have gotten the 8 gig version for a bit less, but I opted for the 80 gig for a few more bucks based on I already had over 8 gig of music and sermons etc.

I have the entire NIV on CD (dramatized) and I want to convert it to MP3 and put it on my Zune. I spend just under 3 hours a day in the car and really enjoy listening to the Bible on CD. It's kind of a pain though digging through cd's when I'm driving. Also, since I've got Microsoft's Active Sync in my car, and it's voice activated, all I'll have to do is voice activate a book and chapter :D Pretty cool huh?

This is sooo cool!

I downloaded the NT from http://www.faithcomesbyhearing.com/bible_redirect.php
Then, I created folders for each book and placed the downloaded files into their respective folders, renamed the files, indexed them, and edited the tags appropriately.

Now, when I get in my car with Microsoft Active Sync, I can go to book and chapter using voice commands! It's so cool!

Now, all I have to do is rip the cd's that I have for the OT and do the same :-? Man, that's a lot of work, but worth it! :D

I have a GP2X. It plays MP3s and OGG. Plus it plays divx and xvid video. It also runs application and games. It is the best portable device in my opinion.

I opted for the Sandisk Sansa E260. 4GB on board w/micro SD slot. That's all I need. It will play MP3, WMA, JPG, BMP and MOV (comes with video converter). It also has FM and an FM/voice recorder. It has the ability to dock if I ever need that feature. It sounds great with my Koss headphones and has custom eq settings, as well as seven (ugh) preset eq.

I went for the refurb for $50 because I wanted the version 1, not v.2.
V.1 can use the Rockbox firmware upgrades. Rockbox does allow dualboot, so I can still keep the Sansa's firmware.

Nice choice Vic! I've read that they have really good sound quality.

At one point I thought the same. :D Between my music and podcasts (Ravi Zacharias, among others), I must carry around 12GB worth of stuff. I was finally able to get a 16GB SDHC card for around $80 with shipping.

With Rockbox too, very nice. It is still in the works for my D2.

My sermons and stuff can be put on micro SD chips, so long as I don't lose them. They're about the size of my pinkie fingernail. :o The sound is great, but the custom EQ and Koss headphones help. :-D

Video is a bit small, but surprisingly clear and smooth streaming. The downside is I have to use their software to convert files to .mov. :-?

Haven't installed Rockbox just yet. Nor do I plan flashing the firmware to the latest Sansa update. Why fix what's not broken. ;-)

The unit is a bit heavy but very solid. The case is black, so it is a real fingerprint magnet. It's got a easily replaceable NiCad battery. The charge seems to last a long time. The FM could be a bit less sensitive; it drifts in and out a little.

I love my 30GB ipod it is a constant companion I will have to get a battery soon they are 65 bucks.
