In dark night live those for whom the Lord
Is transcendent only; in darker still,
For whom He is immanent only.
But those for whom He is transcendent
And immanent cross the sea of death
With the immanent and enter into
Immortality with the transcendent.
So have we heard from the wise.

If God is immanent, does that mean He created Himself?

Quath

In a way yes, but I think a better way to look at it would be to call it an "infusion". An Eternal Spirit that creates material "bodies" in order to experience "itself" in an infinite number of ways. That may not be the traditional "panthiestic" view of this question but that is how I would interpret it.

Upanishads?

Yes.

Have you read them?

yes.

Its not that uncommon that Hinduism is regarded as pantheism by Christians. As your quote makes clear, Hindu's do actually believe in a "transcendent" Deity.
