Is the virgin birth necessary

I've often wondered when it comes to the birth of Jesus, could it be possible that someone(a human) actually did impregnate Mary? Just from studying the bible and looking at translations, the fact that the word 'virgin' meant young woman would make this a reasonable argument. So, my question is, is the virgin birth necessary for the christian story. Couldn't God have just brought Jesus into the world by natural means and still serve his purpose? If we found out today that it was proven that Jesus actually had a biological human father, I don't think I would feel any different about what Jesus was sent for and what he did for us. I personally don't care how he got here, the end was still the same. I may be missing something really obvious, so I would like to hear what your opinions are on this topic. Why do we need the virgin birth?

I think the virgin birth of Jesus makes Him all the more special and supernatural because of the added miracle, and this certainly is another aspect about Christianity that stands out unique amongst religions because no other religion can say the same about their founders, like Siddhartha Gautama of Buddhism, Muhammad of Islam, Sri Ramakrishna of Hinduism, Lao Tzu of Taoism, Mahavira of Jainism , etc .........

What do you mean by "necessary"? Salvation is not "necessary" in of itself. Praise God for how He has saved us, rather than looking for what is "necessary"...
