I'll be praying for you, Misfit. We had a long discussion about the economy and hardship this Sunday at church. I'll try to fill you in as best I can, because it helped me put my current situation into focus a little bit more.
In Matthew 4:1, Jesus was lead into the desert by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil. The Holy Spirit, which is used by us for guidance, led Jesus into the desert (not a beach resort) to be tempted by the devil, of all things. This is used to illustrate that sometimes the Spirit can lead us into hardship, not necessarily where we would want to go, but where God wants us to, for eventually, our greater good in the end. The Spirit does not always lead us into pleasentries, and we have a habit of making choices based on what the best choice looks like, and not what it really is -- as well as viewing some things that are happening to us more as obstacles, instead of a chance to pray and seek out another path that is may be better for us in the end.
Those of us that are without jobs, or are finding other trials in this time of failing economy and strange leadership should pray strongly and let the Spirit be our guide, even if we aren't sure of where the path will take us in the end.
Maybe there's a reason your hours were cut? Maybe even though you're going through a trial right now with finances and other burdens, there's something on the horizon that is soon to be better than what you have? Pray and keep your head up and your options open.
Rom 8:35-3:39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
