Italy Earthquake

In 2015 the town of Amatrice was declared one of the Most Beautiful Towns in Italy.

It looked like this:

Today it looks like this:

I've forgotten where in Italy you Live, Wondering, but I hope you and your family are safe. I pray for everyone in the area. Italy will always be a special place for me.

I'm watching this on FNC and it is a sure nuff mess.
This is a little North of Aquila where that big earthquake happened about 10 years ago.
So far there are 73 dead. A town totally destroyed and at least three others also badly damaged.
Too close to home...

Thanks Mike.
I'm more North and West. (Lucca)
No problem here, but I also live in a region where earthquakes happen. So far, so good.
Yes. Let's pray.

§Friday Morning Aug 26

Over 270 dead
Over 300 badly hurt
Missing 200 plus
Many children

Many children buried under rubble, rescued after hours.
The number of dead means that, in such a small area, everyone either had a death in the family or knows someone who did.

The hospital is non-functioning, no supermarkets, no food.
The government is shipping it in.

Last night there was a "tremor" of 4.8 Richter and the last bridge joining Amatrice to the outside world was damaged so they're totally cut off. The mayor is appealing to the govt in Rome to set up a "movable" bridge ASAP.

These tremors go on for days and even weeks. People are afraid of them and they also are a reminder of what they felt the night of the quake.

Our hearts ache for the people effected. 270 dead and hundreds missing and injured is a terrible tragedy for those communities. Our prayers continue. :pray

Please keep us informed.

Have they appealed to the Vatican?

Have they appealed to the Vatican?
This is what was printed in one of the newspapers:

The Holy See intends to play its part, together with the parishes, religious institutes and lay associations. This is the time of the engagement, in harmony with the State bodies, which are already commendably operand. Only solidarity can help overcome trials so painful.

Usually they don't make monetary donations. There are many churches in Italy that would require work to get them back in good shape, but the towns must come up with the money themselves. I've often said that the vatican is very rich but the local churches are poor.

I'm not sure what "intends to play its part means". So far they're planning a special mass and many rosaries.
I'm sure there will be donations of clothing since most Catholic churches do offer this service even in normal circumstances.. Also food.

A firefighter has written a moving letter to a young child who died in the Italian earthquake.
Giulia Rinaldo, 10, was found on top of her little sister, Giorgia, who was pulled out alive after 16 hours under the rubble in Pescara del Tronto.
The note, spotted left on her small white coffin, was only signed "Andrea".
"Hello, little darling" Andrea wrote. "I only managed to lend a hand to pull you out of the prison of rubble. Forgive us if we arrived too late.
"However, you had stopped breathing by then, but I'd like you to know that we did all we could to pull you out.
"When I return to my house in l'Aquila, I will know that there is an angel watching me from the sky," he says.
"You will be a shining star in the night. Bye Giulia, I love you even though you never got to know me."
Finally, he signed the note with a heart symbol.
Giulia's coffin was laid out with 34 others at a state funeral service held in the regional capital, Ascoli Piceno, on Saturday.
Bishop Giovanni d'Ercole mentioned the sister at the service, saying: "Life and death came face to face and for Giorgia, life won."

How gutting. I can't stop the tears. Of course we remember and pray for the families who have lost loved ones, yet we can forget those on the scene to help. They also see the carnage and pull dead bodies from it, they will also suffer those memories and possible guilt for the rest of their lives.

Jesus we lift everyone up to you, all those affected by the terrible tragedy.

Curious they don't make monetary donations.. you would think that a country with more money than you can shake a stick at would do a wee more...

I feel as you do Wrg.
On the news they spoke of an 11 year old girl who was buried by the rubble. She said she was praying to die because of the pain she was in. She did get saved. Also a 4 year old girl who was buried for hours.

There are no words to speak when people are faced with such tragedy, not only here, but all over the world.
