Jesus Christ and the Poverty of Man
Religious piety does not entail eradicating poverty from the face of this earth. Many religious people promote Christianity as nothing more than moral soap that will cleanse man's sinful behavior while he is still wallowing in the mud of his own sinfulness. Jesus Christ, who was God on earth, knew better than to promote the false belief that poverty will be eradicated when he stated -
John 12:8
New International Version (NIV)
8 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.â€
Matthew 26:11
New International Version (NIV)
11 The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.
Mark 14:7
New International Version (NIV)
7 The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.
Deuteronomy 15:11
New International Version (NIV)
11 There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.
Here is clear biblical proof that God (as Jesus Christ ) saying that there is no spiritual plan to eradicate poverty from society. For any person, government, or church to think that they have been specifically ordained by God to eliminate poverty on earth is delusional. If poverty were a defect of spirituality then God wouldn't have said, 'The poor you will always have with you'.
Satan loves to use poverty as evidence to nonbelievers that God doesn’t exist, and/or that the ultimate goal of the christian faith is to eradicate poverty. The goal of Christianity is to bring the good news of salvation, which is the forgiveness offered by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, to nonbelievers. Not to eliminate the scourge of poverty from society.
It is appalling that many preachers and religious lay persons promote Christianity as a solution to poverty. They are deliberately using the christian faith as a 'snake oil' remedy that, once taken, will transform man into a perfect being where his progression through life will no longer be ruled by the consequences of his sin. Christianity does not make man perfect, only forgiven. Poverty is a condition of sin, the same as disease and sickness, that highlights the fact that while man may be forgiven of his sins he is still sinful and capable of becoming sick and/or impoverished.
God will let the foolish christian, and non-christian alike, waste their time trying to perfect man to the detriment, and ultimate ruin, of their own financial condition. As the world pours billions and trillions of dollars into social programs in an effort to transform man into a perfect image of God, devoid of sickness or poverty, God looks down at our ineffectual efforts as a violation of God's very first commandment of worshiping no other God. When man tries to perfect man he is worshiping himself.
God Bless
