"I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." ( John 14:6-7)

I'm interested to know what this passage means to you? What does Jesus mean here exactly? Does he mean that anyone who finishes a prayer with "In Jesus name" is going to the father through Him? Or does he mean unless you believe in Him, you will never get to the Father? Or how about when Jesus mentions that whatever you do for your brother, sister, child, through goodness is doing it for him? How about a good act towards someone then, is that constituted as a deed for Christ through to the Father?

I'm keen to find out what people interpret with this passage as it's one of the most common and is used as an argument against any other 'religion'.

Cheers,
Lloyd

How's this one to go along with your thread;

And He (Jesus) said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.†(John 6:65)

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Be blessed, Stay blessed!

Christ is the Only Way to God...
If we really believe this with all of our mind, heart, soul, and strength, then it means that there is no other way of life, no other belief that we are to follow and live by.
Most Christians will say that they do believe in these words, but in every day life they embrace another belief, and this belief puts Christ in second place.
Most do not realize what this belief is because all embrace it and believe it to be good and right.

All of man and most, if not all of "christians" worship this belief, live by it, work by it, fight for it, and die for it.

This way is the belief in freedom of rights and freedom of religion. Think about it.

Recently a major politician, who may be running for president, gave a speech in which he made reference to the important significance of the pledge of allegiance of one nation under God. A few sentences later, he also went on to refer to the value and importance of the religious freedom within the constitution that gives the right to each individual to worship the “religion†or “god†of their choice.

There is a contradiction and hypocrisy in referring to the allegiance of one god and at the same time supporting the existence of other gods.

If, on one hand, the reference to this one god is the God of Jesus Christ, The One and Only True God, then scripture makes it clear that there cannot be any other god. Any worship of any other “god†is blasphemy and a sin.

If, on the other hand, this one god is one that represents the belief in self will and the worship of freedom of rights, then there is no contradiction with the belief in the freedom to worship the “religion†or “god†of one’s choice.

Under the constitution on the United States it is illegal for the government to force or impose one “religion†on all the people. They can also neither show preference for any one “religionâ€.

However, if one were to look at the belief in the freedom of rights, one can quite easily see it to be a “religion†in itself. The only reason that it is not seen as a “religion†is because it has not been labeled as such.

People desire it because they believe it to be good, to be a way of peace, to respect human rights and universal values. They desire it because it gives them self-rule.

When Christ returns, He will bring forth God’s kingdom on earth. There will be Only God’s Way. Please note that since the Holy Spirit is here now, we are to follow in Christ's steps now.

...to do God's will and only His will.

I hope that this will be something to think about.

The way to heaven is through the adherence to the teachings of Jesus. You can have it now, if you’d like. Just obey those teachings.

I agree... for sure, but what I'm interested in also is this particular passage will be used against another faith or religion, as the only way to God. This is the key passage cited to confirm that belief, which for the record, I 100% agree with. But obeying the teachings of Jesus can pass outside of the realm of 'Christianity' - does that make sense? That's why I think there's a deeper meaning here, but people randomly use that line without having an understanding of it.

Cheers.

I believe it means that only by believing in Christ can one go to heaven.....You can believe in a God or a higher power or an almighty deity, but one day you will have to except the fact that Jesus Christ has all authority and you must believe in Him ....

Acts 4v10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

The above must be understood with this in mind: John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

What John there told us is that it is impossible for us to directly see God and therefore Christ came to help us be able to see him.

In other words, Christ revealed to us the essence of who his Father is.

That is little different than you never having seen a woman's husband but you come to know her husband by how she portrays him to you.

The only major difference would be that Christ portrays his Father perfectly to us where as that woman would portray her flawed impression of her husband.

Most things in the Bible are just simple common sense things as this.

We humans often make complicated what is simple due to our desire to believe certain things.

But you are right warhorse that God did not at any time give any other name by which by we must be saved and which also dwelled under the heaven than that of the name of Jesus.
