John 16:21 says "A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world."
This is Jesus Christ talking of himself. He in essence was saying that when his death would near, he would be sorrowful, for it was his time. But once he was risen from the tomb, his sufferings would now be joy because he accomplished something that gave life to people.
But can this also apply to us in a sense, or am I thinking too deep?
Romans 8 says "And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."
Scripture also talks of birth pangs in relation to prophecy and end times.
A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come:
Jesus would face tribulation before his time has come - we will also face tribulation before our resurrection to salvation.
but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish,:
Jesus has finished his mission, and has delivered us from the curse of sin, thus he does not remember the sufferings because he is happy that he suffered for us and now has joy - When we are delivered from the pangs of the tribulations upon the earth, we will not remember them anymore. We did our due sufferings, sharing them in Christ. And God will wipe the tears from our eyes.
for joy that a man is born into the world:
Jesus Christ has conquered death, and is risen - we are buried with Christ, we are hid with God, and we have been born again into everlasting life.
Just some thoughts. Not saying this as true interpretation. It might be more of an "eisegesis" so
to speak.
