Hello friends, so I have a question. I was wondering on what people think about the possible changing of scripture via the septuagint. (Genesis 37:3) I have had numerous "discussions" on this topic. Some would argue that the colours came in when the septuagint was written. Tell me your thoughts.

Well, according to the interlinear Hebrew Bible at scripture4all the literal translation is "tunic of distinction" so you may have a point there.

Apparently many-coloured tunics were worn by the Hyskos, a Semitic people who migrated to and ruled northern Egypt for a time. They were driven out by the Pharoahs of the 18th dynasty. It's been suggested that there could be some connection between the Hyskos and the biblical Israelites, although if you're right then it would just be coincidence.

I have heard arguements for and against the multicoloured coat. I had been fellowshipping with one that made the topic a matter of much importance. I still think to argue about it is somewhat trivial. This person made it one of methodology to understand scripture. To me the passage is of messianic importance. There is also the point that Jacob wanted to distinguish Joseph as royalty by giving him a long sleeved tunic. Although the pharoahs also used to distinguish their virgin boys with colourful tunics as well. So for the time period it could have been a "striped" tunic. (coloured inferred)

About the methodology some would argue that a linking scripture would be that of 2 sam.13:18. Of which scholars and jewish scribes differ as well. Of course language and clothing change over a time peroid of at least 450 years. So I'm not totally sure that a coloured coat is so wrong.
