It would seem to me that love, as discussed in the Bible, is more about how we TREAT people than it is about how we FEEL ABOUT people.

I honestly wanted to discuss this

pity :bigfrown

Hey Oats,
I don't know the answer to any of your questions. Which means I know even less than I thought I did. This post will bump you back to the top. Maybe someone else will answer. I too am looking forward to this. You play that guitar, or just pose? :)

Q: What does Godly love look like

Full of mercy and grace.

Q: Is there a such thing as Godly hatred?

Yes, but it is always bitter sweet.

Q:How does one effectively love his enemies?

By showing mercy and grace to them when they don't deserve it.

Q:If Satan is our enemy do we love that?

No, we deal with it. Satan is the great tempter, so we resist temptation. This builds endurance, patience and helps the fruits of spirit to blossom.

Q:Is turn the other cheek mandatory?

Turn the other cheeks means you don't let people belittle you, it doesn't mean your somebodies punching bag. Many people miss the cultural significance of that teaching.

Q:Can you kill someone and be merciful?

I suppose it depends. Why? You contemplating on killing somebody?

The reason why is that most think of love as a fun feeling, & an easy emotion +, of course excitement. There can be some of these traits, but also in the human 'text' it also can be the complete opposite! True Agape LOVE as 'i' see it is a Born Again PRINCIPLE.

Case in point: Christ LOVED US enough to die for us, [FEELING WHAT?}--> 'MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?' Mark 15:34 And yes, that is the test of MATURE LOVE.

SO: No one but God can understand the Loving Motives of another, or why they do, or do not do what has got to be done. (love or a cop/out)

Amen! I'd agree that most people always associate love with a feel good emotion. However, Godly love is always bound in suffering in one form or another.

John 3:16 lays this out very clearly. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son.

As does the writer of Hebrews.
Hebrews 2:10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

We don't like to look at it like this, but true love is always bound with the ending of happiness. But before we misunderstand this idea, lets explain what I mean.

Suppose one day your out doing your thing (whatever your thing is) and you're happy. The next day your out doing your thing and your not happy because the one you enjoy sharing that experience isn't there by your side...

Love is when you create a space next to you that didn't exist before and when that space isn't filled, your not happy. Simply put, love is the memories between two objects that means nothing to other people than the ones who hold the memories.
