Man's Dominion Over Himself
Our Flesh Can Never Warn Us Of Our Sin
Many Christians look upon society today in disbelief as they watch in horror as it deteriorates into a Sodom and Gomorrah of pleasurable pursuits absent of responsibility. While many believe that this is a new phenomenon the roots of this decadence and immorality extend back to the Garden of Eden. When one looks at what happened in the Garden of Eden, and examines why man sinned so easily, we'll see that man's current descent into sinfulness isn't all that new or unexpected.
In the story of man's downfall in the Garden of Eden it can be seen that in Eve's encounter with the serpent Eve interjected an additional condition of God's command that ultimately nullified his command.
Notice what happened during Eve's very first encounter with Satan as in Genesis 3:1-4.
Eve stated God's command correctly but included a condition of her own when she said it is forbidden to even touch it. Here we have Eve's flesh rewriting God's command in order to negate it. If Eve touched the forbidden fruit and she didn't receive a negative emotional response of some type, which she expected in order to confirm the veracity of God's original command not to 'eat' of the forbidden fruit, then Eve would proceed with the actual sin confident that God was lying. (It must be remembered that God walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden to make himself available for reassurance and instruction.)
Mankind is constantly demanding that all sin be preceded with an emotional reaction from our flesh that will ultimately confirm God's commandment against it. But since God is spirit all of his commands will not have any influence over our feelings since our feelings are a component of our flesh, not our spirit.
It must be remembered that when God created man he first made his flesh and then he breathed his own breath into him to give him a spirit, i.e. life. God then gave man dominion over this world and since man was created out of the dust of this world man has a de facto dominion over himself thereby preventing God from ever overpowering or overriding any of man’s emotions or intellect. For God to supplant or supersede our emotions or intellect to warn us of our impending sin would violate man's dominion over his flesh that God gave him right after creating him.
God's laws will never generate any feelings of warning in man since God already gave man dominion over his own flesh thereby God gave man total control over his feelings. For God to warn man with an emotional response, just before man commits a sinful act, would mean that God would have to take back man's dominion over his flesh (his feelings) in order to warn him. God would then become sinful just warning man long before man ever committed that sinful act.
Since God gave man dominion over his flesh, and therefore his feelings, God cannot interject any emotional feelings of warning of an impending sinful act for it would cause God to become sinful himself. Man has to trust God that a sinful act is sinful without the aid of any emotional confirmation from God.
While man has dominion over his flesh, and all of its physical emotions and feelings, God still retains a dominion over man's spirit for God placed his own spirit in man. God gave man dominion over everything he created but as for man's spirit, God's breath of life, this was not created for it is eternal like God which is why upon death it will either exist with God in heaven or apart from God in hell. It is from this spirit that God can influence man with the characteristics of his Holy nature that give rise to such manifestations such as love, peace, kindness, justice, etc.
God gave man full dominion over his flesh so that no person can ever say that 'the devil made me do it!' If man sins it is his fault alone, period! Equally when Jesus walked this world no one can ever say (especially Satan) that Jesus Christ got help being sinless from God the Father. Jesus Christ, in becoming human, inherited the same total dominion over his flesh as man had therefore God was prevented from interfering or warning him of any impending sin.
God Bless
note:
In regards to the sin of homosexuality many people, Christians especially, equate the permissiveness of homosexuality to our biological sexual emotions which arise from our flesh and use the emotion of love which arises from our spirit as a confirmation that God permits homosexuality. God does not, because he can not, send any warning emotion to us to prevent any act of homosexuality (which is why homosexuality is becoming so prevalent in society). For man has dominion over his emotions which God will not violate with any interference. Mankind has to trust God that the sin of homosexuality (as well as all other sins) is a sin without any warning emotion from God that would confirm it.
It is also a fact that Satan does not honor man's dominion over his own emotions and will eagerly supplant man's emotions with intense pleasure in order to confirm the permissiveness of many sins. This is how Satan deceives many people into living a life of seeking the false pleasures of sin. For Satan produces these false pleasures for man to enjoy until it all stops once the person finds himself ensnared in his own sin addiction brought about by his decadent and corrupt flesh which can't stop craving every imaginable sinful pleasure.
When God created the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden he made it off limits to man. God likewise made man off limits to God himself when he gave man dominion over everything including man himself. The forbidden tree was off limits to man as man was now off limits to God. So you see why God is precluded from direct intervention into the affairs of mankind. God will initiate judgment to impart justice into the affairs of man because of direct Satanic influence. But God still retains dominion over man's spirit given to him by God from which justice emanates.
It is interesting that God gave man his own freedom (with responsibilities) when he gave him dominion over everything including himself – as an individual! America is blessed by God simply because our US Constitution facilitates individual freedoms, the same individual freedoms (and responsibilities) that God gave man after he created him. Whenever any government takes those individual freedoms away then God withdraws his blessings as we have seen in many despotic dictatorships throughout history.
When Jesus Christ became man God was putting himself in a human body thereby God was now living under his own laws in order to validate them. When Jesus Christ died on the cross not only did he save all those who would believe in him, but since he lived under his own laws and commandments, he was now justified in using them to judge all others. God, in becoming Jesus Christ and living a sinless life under his own laws, earned the right to be God!
Jesus Christ wasn't trying to establish his own kingdom. Jesus was God becoming one of his own created beings and living a sinless life in an unrighteous world. Jesus proved that God's laws extended to both a righteous kingdom (heaven) and an unrighteous kingdom (this world) - equally! Now an unrighteous kingdom such as this world and Satan's rebellion can be judged by Jesus Christ - equally!
Man was created for holiness and only when the evil influence of Satan's ability to supplant his wicked pleasures and thoughts into man is negated by a belief in Jesus Christ, then and only then, will the peace of God's love be restored. If you seek a virtuous life full of of peace and love inherent in God's holiness then just seek out the presence of God's Holy Spirit in your life by believing in the death and resurrection of God's son Jesus Christ. It is through the simple belief in Jesus Christ, God becoming man, and his sacrifice on the cross for all of our sins that will finally bring Satan into an obedient restraint and prevent him from supplanting our emotions with his own sinful immoral pleasures.
Amen
