Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.

So what so you think is exactly meant by this?

Jesus was pretty clear on this, nobody has given everything for the gospel and kingdom sake and not received 100 fold now in this time, lands, houses, and family. Jesus was answering Peter's Question and added in the age to come eternal life. There is 100 fold return on your giving if you put God's things first. We can always see who is first by who gets money first after we get paid. Most the time, God is not as important as money to a whole lot of believers and thus they don't qualify for what Jesus said.

Jesus was teaching His disciples that faithfulness to Him will result in rewards now during our lives. Such rewards may be spiritual, but they will be greater than what was given up. (note these 2 verses follow the account of the rich young ruler). We know from Rom 6:23 that eternal life is a gift, which means it is not earned. So the phrase "in the age to come, eternal life" in the context of v.29 indicates rewards in eternity.

We see the concept of this from Jesus' words in John 10:10 -
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. NIV

There is "life" and there is "having it (life) to the full".

Or, as the NASB puts it:
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. NASU

So, eternal life is a gift. But having it abundantly or to the full is to be rewarded in eternity for faithfulness.

He's speaking of the family of God as a whole.

32And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but all things were common property to them." (Acts 4:32 NASB)

In exchange for the families and things we lose because of the gospel we gain 100x that in the collective whole of the body of Christ. But, what comes with that are the multiplied persecutions of the body of Christ that you did not have before. And above all else, in the end, the Christian inherits eternal life.

All of those terms denote spiritual matters.

For example, in scriptural terms, a person or a man is a house.

Luke 11:24
When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

This is not speaking of four walls and a roof floating around in heaven:

John 14:2
In my Father's house are many mansions

We might also note, by rights and inclusion, 100X more persecutions.

This is just as secure as any "promise" of the Gospel:

Luke 21:17
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.

Associations of this type stem from the O.T. For example, in the case of "house"

Proverbs 24:
3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Psalm 92:13
Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.

Psalm 102:7
I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top.

Psalm 127:1
Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Literalism is not the friend of wisdom and understandings in the Lords House.

1 Corinthians 2:13
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

When I was in grade school the school system had the families of children identify which church denomination each child was associated with. Also a list of nearby denominational assemblies. On Weds. mid morning we were let out of class for a couple of hours to then go have religious training. Since my family was Lutheran and there was no close church, my parents had to pick an alternative. There was a Wesleyan assembly right across the street from the school, so that was the one for me, and the majority of the kids in my grade.

I remember standing outside the church building, with some old religious spinster who was chaperoning the whole gaggle of us, and she made us all recite in unison, this scripture, just prior to entry into the church building:

Psalm 122:1
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.

Now it may have been that she was just trying to calm this bunch of nitwit kids down enough to keep them under control, or instill some type of "pious" spirit into us or what have you.

But it was really bad teaching. But I can still hear the recitation of all us kids in my mind. Glad the scripture stuck!

That thing was torn down a long time ago. So much for the "Lords house." Wisdom and understanding moved on with me.

This is really how I was viewing it also.

Yes.
They will be "spiritual" and they will be eternal, unlike the the material things of this life.
