Windows defender decided that my dnspi.dll file was infected with a virus and just removed it. I could not put it back in case it was actually infected, with windows defender it's really hard to tell with the number of false positives as everything is a virus.

This is a windows dynamic link library file that runs with winsock whatever but long story short, programs use this to check mail, do updates and other things useful.

Well, guess it was time to reinstall windows 10, since my system32 folder is locked and my wow64 folder is locked, and i just did not feel like messing with it. So I selected repair options.

Repair went horribly wrong, and now I had a computer that would no longer boot. It's a laptop so my windows 8 is long gone that came with it, and putting back a fresh install of windows 10 with formatted drive left me with a windows that was not activated.

Microsofts rule is that windows 10 is only free if upgrading from windows 7 or 8, not a fresh install of windows 10. I did not know that, despite my CD key for windows 8 is in the in the Bios (The security keys you have to disable or secure boot to put linux on the machine.

Looking over the website at microsoft, looked like I was just going to have to settle for a cracked copy of windows 10, or deal with the activation nag, and some missing functionality.

I have sown lots of computer help in the past though, So I got to thinking if i called Microsoft, I would have favor and they would just fix it for me since I did have a windows 8 key in the bios still. I have favor of the Lord, and I have lots of computer help seed.

So, I got in touch with a tech, and He did not balk, he wanted to help me, he remotes in to my computer and BAM i have a new activated windows 10 copy.

This took just about 10 minutes from the time I got in touch with Microsoft.

Just thought I would share that for lack of anything else I am doing now.

Mike.

Then again, get computers like mine, and skip the virus protection (I don't have any), and the Operating systems are also free. I honestly believe that those who tolerate the abuse that Microsoft gave to its customers for years and years must have the patience of a saint. I know I failed that test.

Microsoft is a business. They are not a charity. It's absurd to think they would employ thousands of employees without the end goal of making a profit and instead just giving away everything they paid to produce. But that is what so many people expect them to do. (Not referring to their support, Mikey).

Just because there is free software out there doesn't make Microsoft evil for wanting to sell what it has paid tons of money to produce.

This is exactly why everyone should burn an image of their free 10 upgrade.

I'm not talking about the money they want for their software. I'm talking about getting that money and in return just giving the populace a jack-shoot operating system.

the support I received was immediately, and the guy had my windows 10 activated despite only being able to install and activate from an existing windows of 7/8.

He got my windows 8 key from the bios, and said good enough.

Windows 10 is pretty amazing, and you can shut down all the ways it connects to Microsoft if you want. Nothing to dislike about it.

XP was an awesome OS. Windows 7 was going to be the next XP. I haven't heard any complaints about 10. Yeah, there was Windows Millennium and Vista, and a brief episode with 8.0, but nobody's perfect.

I agree. Linux has a few cool things about it, but Where is the support and top to bottom solutions for business? Microsoft with it's cloud based solutions and instant help to get anything fixed and sorted for business is just amazing.

Linux? What team you gonna call in?

Linux is also not very users friendly, and people that use Linux often times try to find ways to make it more like Windows, which is pretty dumb, just switch to windows.

I TRIED to do the Linux thing, but Open Office is not anything close to Microsoft Word, and just sucks.
The other big thing is Photoshop which I use a lot and Linux offers no support to run it, and has nothing that can come close to comparison.
I also sort of got tired watching windows users get the new games, and I was with the crowd asking when the Linux version was coming, if it was coming.

Now if your running servers, then Linux, and Linux does other things more secure and better than windows.

For Home use, and business offices, Microsoft Windows all the way.

Microsoft made a good move with Windows 10, it's free and it incorporates Android and IOS development which is very smart (Since Microsoft failed horribly with their own Smart phone thingy) Microsoft is not as "Closed" as it was, and even talks about playing more nice with Linux.

thing is though, Apple is still doing well, and they are in a world all their own. I am sure Microsoft see's that also, and while opening up a whole lot, they still corner their customers in towards them. Not as bad as Apple though, but you still feel the noose in the distance.

For now, Windows is top dog, things are changing though, and I would not be very surprised to see Best Buy, Walmart carry systems with Linux already installed and ready to go.

Now if you remember Lindows................ We will see.

Mike.
