Did you ever watch the video of that one species of ape that prepared wood for a fire, grabbed the lighter out of the woman's pocket, lit the fire, kept it going, then put it out with water? Not trained, just watched the humans do it and learned.

Yeah, I read your response and thought you totally missed the point.

The whole point of that thing was that the person was an evolutionist and was trying to make the case that a lot of this stuff is learned behavior. She was arguing that it was more learned than most people think, and it's not as much of a genetic thing (to a point). I don't know how you'd measure "sentience" exactly as you were talking about, but it was fairly interesting that the animal was self aware while looking in the mirror.

Yes it is amazing the intelligence of these animals (and others) But what does this entail?

She was merely arguing that the intellectual progress of our species could be much more dependent on society/culture/upbringing than once thought. Given proper environment, even a primitive animal caught on some very complex activities by merely watching. That's pretty much all she was saying.

Okay. :)

But the title of the thread was misleading....Signs of evolution occurring? ..I think not.
