More earthquakes in Italy

Wondering about wondering
No problem here Reba.
Thanks for thinking of me.

Italy is very prone to earthquakes. I have felt a few tremors.
Not a pleasant feeling to have the earth move under your feet.
One time all my neighbors slept outside in a field in front of my house because the tremor was pretty big.
Not us. We stayed inside and went to bed. No one could predict when the next tremor will be so it's no use worrying about it.

When my mom was in the US Navy we lived in Italy for a couple years. I know we lived near a volcano at one point. She talked about ashes being everywhere one time.
I think earthquakes are more common near volcanos?

There are two volcanoes in Italy.
One is Vesuvius in Naples.
And one is Etna in Sicily near Catania. (the South coast)

These earthquakes are not happening there, but in Central Italy north of Rome.
They happen because of the mountain range, Appennine, which runs North and South of Italy, right in the center.
The mountains push against each other and cause the earhtquakes.

I don't feel them by me, I'm more up North than that and on the West Coast.
Natural disasters are truly frightening.

We have a couple of volcanoes here in the Pacific NorthWest. I've experienced two earthquakes. Very strange feeling when you're new to that sort of thing.

I've through a typhoon.
Not too bad.
A couple of missed hurricanes.
A few trembles from the ground.
I remember the airplanes breaking the sound barrier back in the 60"s.
I remember the Creature from the Black Lagoon with my 3d sunglasses.

Two more big earthquakes yesterday.
Bad weather, hard for anyone to check things.
Sounds like utter chaos with not much hope for anyone that might be buried in the rubble.

Hi Papa Zoom
I say it's a very strange and scary feeling even when you're not new to it.
I doubt you could ever get used to it.
It's nice to have terra ferma.

Wondering

What saved a lot of people is that the lighter earthquake came first so many went out of their buildings.
When the bigger quake hit about 2 hours later, the bldgs were empty. To the best of my knowledge, no one has died but there were injuries.

I have snowirds, these vile things bring forth whining, death, and destruction . I can't kill them with me trusty vulcan.:grumpy.

Why,why can't I euthanize these,it's humane?

I got used to and very complacent with quakes living in the Bay Area. Even sat through a 90-second roller on the fifth floor, barely stopped working.

Then the Loma Prieta hit. Changed the whole outlook. Sidewalks are not supposed to wave.

Could you imagine entire towns that no longer exist?
And what about that terrible sound they make.
Better not to think about it.
