I came across this song again recently, and it caused some memories from long ago to come flooding back. Joe and Eddie enjoyed some popularity in the 60s, I liked them a lot, but their style wouldn't make it today except for maybe in the niche of Christian music.

The Drinking Gourd was ostensibly a song dating from the days of slavery, a map song for runaways. It was probably actually written later than that, but it is a bit of our 60s cultural heritage anyway.

Elvis
Little Richard
Buddy Holly
Connie Francis
Brenda Lee

I am old

This song was written by Ewan MacColl for his lover Peggy Seeger, which she recorded first in 1957. The more famous version and far more soulful in my opinion, was recorded by Roberta Flack. One of the most beautiful songs of all time.

You left out Patsy Kline

Since we got steered into country, this is one of my early memories of dad listening to the radio. Hank Williams, one of the greats.

Well the music of my youth was The Platters on up to Motown, or Led Zepplin, Iron Butterfly you name it I was into it. My rock and and R&B collection is vast and I mean vast. Which most of it is in a laptop now, and I also have a large Gospel collection.
