My daughter has a hilatial (sp?) hernia in her stomach. Basically, instead of her stomach being shaped like a kidney, her stomach is shaped rather like a pear. This causes a lot of serious acid-reflux.

Up until now, we've had her on Prevacid, in order to alleviate the GERD. However, since Prevacid inhibits the body's ability to absorb calcium, and she is still only 10 and growing, this isn't a good long term solution.

So, we are looking at surgery.

On Thursday, she needs to go in for a preliminary test to see if the GERD is serious enough to warrant surgery. She has to go off any and all tummy meds until after the test is over. They will put a probe down her nose, into her tummy and she will need to have it in for 24 hours.

Tonight is her first 24 hours without any tummy med and she is beginning to really be uncomfortable. It took her well over an hour to fall asleep and she's already woke up once.
I know that the next few days of untreated acid-reflux is going to be really hard for her.

I would appreciate prayers in this, that my daughter would be able to be comfortable, that we would have clear answers as to whether or not surgery is needed, and mainly that God will just watch over my little girl.

I'm so sorry you are going through this trying time,
I will remember you all in my prayers as you have requested.

Hope for the best.

Hi Dora,
I'm so sorry to hear you're both going through this. I have acid reflux sometimes to & I finally figured out that If I eat a piece of bread or drink water, to weaken the acids in my stomach- that helps to eleviate the acid reflux. Basically have something in your stomach to weaken the acids & that helps alot, there by giving me time to heal. I'll be keeping you both in my thoughts & prayers.
God Bless.

Thank you for your prayers. She had the probe put in this morning. She's a bit uncomfortable, but OK. I think the real trying time is going to be when she wants to go to sleep. Ronald McDonald House is taking really good care of us, and actually, we are having a bit of a good time!

Hi Dora,
I'm so glad to hear that all is going well. Your daughters in Gods' hands & in Good hands :-D God Bless you & keep us posted.
Hugs-

Well, it's good to be back home! I'm not sure when we'll get the results of the proceedure, since it's Christmas time, but I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again for your prayers, all-in-all it was not all that bad.
