I'm just on this website as I have been interested as to why many people here believe in God and what his purpose is in their life as I right now have "My own Philosophies" so to speak.

I'll bite.

First, I would like to point out that my belief is not a philosophy, opinion, or conjecture. It is a belief...conviction...trust...truth...certainty of the existence of God. I believe God exists as surely as you believe the warmth of the sun, the wet of rain, or the air consumed with each breath you take.

When I look around me I see the evidence of God and to me it is very plain and in view. The perfect inter-relationship and inter-dependence of everything in our universe, galaxy, solar system, and planet despite what sometimes appears to us as chaos; the miracle of birth and new life; that matter and anti-matter exist at all are all examples of the evidence of God. It's all too perfect with too much evidence of intelligent design to be accidental.

I also sense His presence; like a sixth sense so-to-speak. I don't know what He looks like nor can I tell you what HIs voice sounds like but I can tell you that I have felt His presence and influence in my life.

I believe God's main purpose for me, among many, is a relationship. God desires to have a personal relationship with me. He created you and me. Why? We are His and He wants us to be in heaven with Him. What would be our purpose if we are here purely by accident? Nothing...zero...zip...zilch...no purpose whatsoever. God gives our life purpose and meaning.

Unfortunately we have chosen a path of destruction. God is perfection and we fall short of perfection. In heaven we would be the leavening to spoil it all. We are not worthy to inherit the gift of eternal life with Him. Fortunately for us nothing is impossible with God and he gave his son Jesus who made it possible for us to become acceptable. He sacrificed himself to pay the penalty for our sins providing the justification needed to open that narrow door to eternal life. All we have to do is surrender to Him, repent from our sins, and accept Jesus as our personal Lord and savior. Sounds simple but it's not due to our pride.

When we surrender we acknowledge our sinfulness and recognize the error in our ways. That is we admit to God and ourselves that we are wrong. This is extremely difficult for us because of our pride. We don't like to admit fault and take responsibility. This is very evident in our society today.

To repent means we reject the error of our ways, seek forgiveness from God, and do our best to avoid the sin trap again. This requires swallowing our pride and humbling ourselves to our master in complete honesty, putting ourselves at the mercy of God.

To accept Jesus as our Lord and savior means we let Him take control of our lives and follow His example. We take up our cross and follow His lead instead of grabbing the bull by the horns. We no longer live for our own personal benefit but for Him. This puts us in an uncomfortable and unfamiliar territory because we don't like to give up the reigns. We would much rather be in control.

When we do these things our focus changes from ourselves to Jesus and even though we continue to make mistakes we no longer give in willingly to our sins but fight against them. The good news of the gospel is that even though we are still sinners Jesus died for us that we may be justified and made acceptable to God Almighty. What a wonderful gift!

I can't think of a better reason to believe in God.
