I've got zero motivation. I can't wait for God to kill me.

God doesn't believe in nihilism! Thus, you will have a long wait.

You came here for Spirituality, so I'll give you some.

You're not ready to live until you're ready to die. So you're actually in a good place, you just need a new perspective. Ultimately, only God's perspective is good. We all may have bits and pieces of it, but the good stuff is God's doing. Every speck of which has purpose.

I normally recommend people start reading Scripture in John, but something tells me you're not a stranger to it. Can you tell us how familiar you are with it, overall?

You're probably aware that "the Beatitudes" start in Matthew 5, and start with "blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven." You're poor in spirit. You need to come to realize why that's a good thing, and what it means that laying your life down finds it.

Self help and motivation is not what I recommend, even though a bit of that in balance is not always necessarily wrong.
Staying empty and broken before the Lord would do the US Church as a whole a LOT of good, so you are way ahead there. This opens the door to something MUCH better than motivation as you perceive it, and prepares you to receive the Holy Spirit. HE is your answer!!

I've read the whole Bible, and I've tried memorizing portions unsuccessfully (I had a few chapters memorized as well as the sermon on the mount). And I've tried everything because "faith without works" is dead to trying nothing because "without the lord the workers build in vain."

you can't wait for God to kill you ? what a crazy statement
1 Samuel 30:6 King James Version (KJV)
6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. they wanted to kill him

This is when you need to set a routine, and force yourself to follow it.
Force yourself to go for a walk every day at the same time. Force yourself to find something beautiful and take it in.

You dont want to die. It's more painful than what your currently experiencing.

Find the good. It's there, but at times like these you have to search for it.

I recomend you read the Psalms. Many of them were written in times of great duress. You may find comfort in a few of them.

While it may seem crazy, it's not that uncommon for those that have experienced traumatic loss. Its actually normal and expected for some to feel that way.
i have not seen anything that said he experienced traumatic loss.

i have no idea i cant read his mind
It's not so much about reading minds as it is about listening to others in a non judgmental way.
While for you, it may seem crazy, for him, it is a part of his life.
If you have never experienced those thoughts or feelings, it is likely you would think its crazy.
We live in a crazy world...

ok so i judged him i see

Essenaut I have been there. I begged God to let me for because I felt no purpose in life, but mainly because I didn't ever want to sin again. That was a very long time ago, many years. You need some peace of mind to find your purpose again.
God alone understands you completely and He will not leave you alone. Stovebolt is do right. You have to change your routine.

Have a go at the psalms. They are beautiful. I found a verse that gave me hope. I wrote it down and carried it with me. In my worse moments I took it out and read it.

I prayed and sat in a park meditating on God. Each day I felt a bit better, until eventually I was back to myself.
Take the first step Essenaut and then perservere every day. God loves you!

I'll be praying for you.

I thought so, you seem to have a familiarity. FWIW, I've never been able to memorize Scripture either; yet at times what I need is there due to the Holy Spirit making it alive in me. I love those times!

You are obviously going through a difficult time. You're getting some really good input here. My best platitudes will fall short; I've got plenty of them, but you need something else entirely. Maybe a walk at night, in conjunction with Psalm 19?

I strongly feel interaction with the physical realm is important for you now. Maybe even something as simple as a good meal? Along with an earnest prayer, blessing it beforehand. It's really easy to not take care of ourselves when we're in a spot like this, and that compounds the situation ...

Essenaut, worship is my best weapon against self destructive thoughts and feelings. Scriptures tell us God is enthroned on the praises of his people, and that Jesus has come to give us a garment of praise in exchange for the spirit of heaviness. I head over to YouTube and search for worship music, set it to auto play, and don’t let it stop until I feel the energy in my home and in myself shift. Sometimes I have to do this for a few days. This is a large part of my username. My spirit longs for the presence of the Lord, and my mind and body are soothed and satisfied by worshiping Him.

Besides that, it is insufferable to evil spirits, so if warfare is a part of this ordeal, any ungodly spirit will make a run for the door.

Worth a try? Let us know what happens. I’m praying for you.
