NRA

I called the NRA and tried terminating my membership. The lady said they don't terminate memberships, but that they will quit sending me their magazine. She told me to write a letter to a certain address and tell them I want my membership terminated...........
Have I now lost my right to disassociate myself from these people? Does no institution believe in individual rights anymore? Pick a side or we'll pick one for you?

Maybe there was a specific process to terminate a membership? Maybe she meant she wasn't able to do that over the phone with you and that's why she suggested writing a letter? Perhaps a misunderstanding since you are able to write a letter and get it to the correct department that handles terminations.

Not to mention they also filed bankruptcy and moved to Texas so they are in the process of moving everything and rebuilding again. I suppose this is possible that it might have an effect on terminations, too.

I think when I write my letter to them I'm gonna ask for a written confirmation stating I am no longer a member and my name is stricken from their rolls.

Memberships are not terminated over the phone. It most likely has something to do with potential fraud. Opposition to the organization could easily try to end your membership via the telephone. When I was a member, my membership expired after one year unless I became a life member. When I no longer renewed, my membership expired.

that's what i thought too

There have been times when I felt the NRA was a bit over-the-top with their defense of gun ownership but I can also understand that giving an inch will only encourage pushing for the mile. With that said, I have been giving thought to rejoining the NRA again but haven't quite pulled the trigger so-to-speak.

Yep. Life member here.

I would say that would probably be a smart idea. Anytime a membership is canceled from something, confirmation is always good to have. That way later if they say you have a membership, you still have the confirmation to protect yourself.

You can disassociate yourself from them by throwing their literature in the trash.

Then I would say the same legal/civil immunities apply to associations as corporations in Texas.
so,a local tbc tire store leaves a wheel, off and someone dies and the ntb won't back the law suit .

that Corp fears the ntb they are quick to fire any employee who lets a tire come off ,seen it ,double torque a must and oil and filter check .

the ntb hammered a few tire stores on the tmps, selling kits and not installing them .firestone and also pep boys got caught

Try suing the Episcopal Church and see what happens.
