Unless you're on meds as an epileptic or someone who is ready to spaz out and hatchet everyone up, I would wager most meds could be skipped out anyway. Actually, this belongs more in the business section because IMO this is an issue where poor people are already being made poorer by being convinced they "need" these drugs and thus duped out of their money.
Tell me, folks, is there anyone here who can go to a doctor any longer for something simple like a bad cold (maybe they need temporary antibiotics) without them finding something else dire wrong just as a mechanic claims your car is ready to explode after taking it in for a simple inspection? Anyone? Probably you were nagged and nagged about your cholesterol being too high, your BP is too high, to eat more vegetables, stay away from salt and red meat, separate those eggs yolks and while you're at it, do that with your brains, too and here is a pill (or maybe several) you'll have to take the rest of your life. And so on and so forth. (Notice the article even puts a scare tacting in about those who skip out will be in the ER more of die sooner --- bullsplat!)
Look, I know the economy is bad, and many want to keep their 6, 7 or even 8 digit salaries (and maybe have to give up their yachts), but hey, the poor are hurting too, so why dig in on their already meager 4-digit and low 5-digit incomes to support yours? No wonder the government then always becomes invovlved, and then the mess gets messier.
