Open Doors Resource Pack For International Day of Prayer
Egi Latapapua, an Indonesian mother and widow whose husband was shot dead by Islamic extremists three years ago and Hamid Pourmand, imprisoned in Iran since last year for his Christian faith, are just two of the of the faithful Christians featured in the Open Doors International Day of Prayer (IDOP) pack for November 6, 2005.
In common with the millions of Christians persecuted for their faith around the world, Egi and Hamid understand that we are in a spiritual battle and that prayer is the greatest tool we have to strengthen Christian brothers and sisters who are suffering for their faith.
Indeed, the plea that Open Doors ministry teams hear from persecuted Christians time and time again is, "Please pray for us."
Mobilising prayer for persecuted Christians has been at the heart of Open Doors' ministry since it was founded 50 years ago by Brother Andrew.
Still faithfully ministering, Brother Andrew urges Christians on the DVD that accompanies this year's Open Doors IDOP pack, to let persecuted Christians know they care:
"Help us tell them 'You are not alone, you are not forgotten, you are not written off. We know about you, we pray for you, and thousands are praying for you."
Open Doors' professionally produced DVD features a powerful, 2-minute film about one manýs journey to church in a dangerous country for Christians, and a 7-minute film about the Open Doorsý petition for persecuted Christians. It is ideal for showing to Sunday morning congregations and also provides a good springboard for small-group discussions.
Open Doors' "Shut up! And use your silence to make a difference" is a resource sheet for youth groups to get involved with IDOP, whilst sermon outlines and a leader's guide make it easy for ministers and church members to raise awareness of IDOP in their churches.
Posters and prayer cards with profiles of persecuted Christians provide valuable information to help pray for specific people in closed and restricted countries.
Fiona Castle, international speaker and author says, "As part of the body of Christ, we have a responsibility before God to stand up for those who are suffering and being marginalised because of their faith. I challenge every member of the family of God to get your family, friends and church involved in praying."
