First of all I admit to doing this out of habit. It's a bad habit I know.
Why do I do it?
Maybe it soothes the doubt and anxiety caused by dwelling on my own shortcomings.
Also I pride myself on seeing what others may not see.
The sin of pride is at the root. And arrogance.
But it is also a kind of defence mechanism. "I'm no worse than Mr. X".
"That person can't even see their own faults. Let me enlighten".
Now in my defence, I will say that I try to find some good, where others may only see fault or nothing at all. I tend to make friends of people on the margins. Loners. Sometimes those loners are like undiscovered gems.
