The last few months God has put it in my heart to come to Him in a deeper way, in deeper prayer and meditation. I’ve been avoiding meditation because of my past experiences and my initial introduction to meditation was through my study of Karate [Zen]. I would google or pick up a book about “Christian†meditation only to find the experiences and practices mentioned in these materials was similar or exactly the same as the Zen meditation I had learned previously. Many of these “Christian†forms of meditation were nothing more then mantra practice, re-dressed Hindu or Buddhist techniques made palatable for believers, but they are far from the Christian form of meditation. Just today I was given this link and so, I thought it best to share, it's a wonderful quick read and will feel like balm to the soul.
The Bible does instruct us to meditate on the word and I thought I was, [Deut. 6:7; 32:46; Ps. 19:14; 49:3; 63:3; 94:19; 119:11, 15, 23, 28, 93, 99; 143:5; Is. 1:3; Luke 2:19; 4:44; John 4:24; Eph. 1:18; 1 Tim. 4:13; Heb. 3:1] but the intellectual study is not the same thing. In hopes of helping others avoid confusion I decided to make this post, which contains a link to “The Puritan Practice of Meditation†by Dr. Joel Beeke. Sermons can be downloaded from http://www.sermonaudio.com that are preached by Dr. Beeke.
Here it is.
God bless,
