Next you’ll tell me we can trust the News, along with their weather reports. I have no idea if this is true or not.

I do not see before and after videos which could also be staged, but I notice the comments allowed (With purpose?) at the end of the story used to publish political conclusions pertaining to Obama care. Do you think this group could possibly have a vested interest in possible funding of their programs?

“A wonderful uplifting story regarding the innovations and scientific achievements this nation is continually providing to its citizens and the world. I wonder how ObamaCare and eventually the Democrats push for government-run single payer for everyone will effect innovation?”

AND “Don't expect too many wonderful breakthroughs like this to happen once obamacare gets its' evil talons firmly implanted into the healthcare system of the US. A quick drop into socialized, one payer healthcare will be the death knell for experimental medicine in the US, unless it is granted through crony capitalism, which will benefit no one in the long run.”

AND “Not likely, the healthcare system that produces these miracles is being destroyed every day.”

My friend Jeff just blogged about similar views.......
********************************
I recently listened to a debate between evangelical preacher and street evangelist, Ray Comfort, and a prominent atheist. While I side with Comfort in regard to Theism, it became very clear to me within the first 20 minutes of the debate that this was just about the only thing I would side with him on.

At one point in the interview Comfort was asked about transitional fossils - a sort of in-between-species fossil - and he laughed smugly and simply stated that he would never be caught even thinking about, let alone looking for such a thing. Why? Because the Bible doesn't support the existence of transitional fossils, so he claimed.

Now, we can agree or disagree with Comfort on the issues of evolution, that's really not the point. What made me so...uncomfortable about Comfort’s statement was the anti-intellectualism in which it was baptized, and the dark-age-bound time machine the ideas behind it have the potential to become. If we become so staunchly fundamentalist in our understanding of the Bible that we refuse to even look for answers to questions it doesn't raise, then we, as a culture, will quickly slip back into an age profound darkness and ignorance. Had we never asked questions of certain areas of life, the themes of which may never be hinted at in scripture, then most of the modern conveniences we enjoy would not exist. If we shunned all brands of knowledge seeming to be at odds with a fundamentalist approach to scripture, our lifespans would be much, much shorter, and preventable diseases would be killing off large quantities of our population.

Martin Luther, the great reformer, is quoted as saying:
"Idiots, the lame, the blind, the dumb, are men in whom the devils have established themselves: and all the physicians who heal these infirmities, as though they proceeded from natural causes, are ignorant blockheads...."

John G. Lake, the famed Pentecostal healing evangelist, made similar disparaging remarks about doctors and physicians, as have a great many other Christians throughout history. Why? Because, to them, sickness was in no way connected to an invisible, micro world of germs - for such things were barely understood - but were demons, and so any attempts at healing them naturally seemed like pure idiocy to them. The fact is, however, that we've found sickness and disease to be nearly always attributable, not to invisible shadow-men, but to germs, bacteria, and the like. Had Christians chosen to stubbornly hold to Luther or Lake's position, however, and had these Christians also gained great political power and sway over the sciences, most of us would still be dying of easily preventable diseases.

Similarly, the writings of Philo and others show how, to the Jews, the recurring pattern of 7's in the temple and otherwise were seen as symbols of the universe, for in their then-present understanding, there were only seven planets. Now, had such philosophy taken hold and gained power over the sciences, the discovery of, oh, I dunno, *NEPTUNE* might never have occurred, and we might never have had the guts to look beyond what was dictated to us by religion, as to do such a thing might have seemed unholy and impious.

I have a problem with Ray Comfort’s philosophy on science because curiosity and a passion for discovery should *NEVER* be squelched in the name of religion. We cannot approach the universe with such strongly believed presuppositions that we're unwilling to even *LOOK* for things that we don't presently have a grid for.

The Spirit of God, so we're told, searches out the very depths of the Father's heart, and reveals to us what He sees therein. The very nature of the Spirit that animates us is discovery and wonder. We ought never, in His name, assume that discovery and curiosity about science, life, the universe, etc..., are off limits.

True, Spirit born Christianity should be at the head of all things scientific, instead of lagging behind, trying to convince children that the corpses of rotting basking sharks are proof that plesiosaurs still exist. We should stand awestruck at the possibility of life elsewhere, instead of assuming that, since nothing like that is mentioned in the Bible, it must be a laughable farce. The origins of the universe, and questions about how and when things came into being ought to enthrall us instead of scaring us. The beauty of the Godhead is all over creation, and simply because the how's, when's and why's might topple our presuppositions, it doesn't mean we shouldn't search such things out.

May the cosmos, and all that it contains, captivate our imaginations again, and may cheap, agenda-driven pat answers and pseudoscience die out like the dinosaurs.
