The little community just south of where I live has suffered another tragedy. A young 18 year old didn't do the best of jobs loading some irrigation pipes. He lost his load, causing another neighbor to swerve. When he did, he lost control of his truck, went off the road into a creek that is quite deep and rapid now. He had his daughters with him. The father, their 8 year old girl and four year old girl all died at the scene. Another daughter 6, is in critical condition, but expected to survive. The mother and another child were not involved in the accident.
This comes not long after the same community held a memorial marking the year after another car went off the road into water, killing 5 children, ages 17, 16, 14, 13 and 12. They were on their way to school and the roads were very icy.
All involved in both accidents (including the young man who lost the load of pipes) are members of the Mormon church. All went to the local school, and although the kids last year were in Jr high and High School, they had graduated from this same local school.
Children dying is always a tragedy, but within a little over a year, this very small community has lost 7 children, all who died when cars slid off our roads into water. And, of course the dad, and not to mention the 18 year old, who was a classmate of the 17 year old who died last year having his life forever changed due to the lack of securing the load properly.
I've been hounding the DofT here to put up traffic barriers so that cars won't go into the water, but to no avail. All that they did was paint brighter lines on the road. :-?
