PRAYER UPDATE FROM ISRAEL
1. THE FORTIETH YEAR FOR UNITED JERUSALEM
Thus says the LORD of hosts: I am zealous for Zion with great zeal; with great fervor I am zealous for her.I will return to Zion, and dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, the Mountain of the LORD of Hosts, the Holy Mountain. Zech. 8:2,3.
Wednesday May 16th, is "Jerusalem Day", marking 40 years (using the Hebrew Calendar), since the "reunification" occurred when Israeli forces took the Old City, including the Wailing Wall and the Temple Mount, from the Kingdom of Jordan in the Six-Day War (According to the Gregorian Calendar, the date was June 7th, 1967).
It was the first time in over 2400 years that the City had found itself under the governance of a sovereign Hebrew state.
Celebrations began last Sunday with a special Israeli Government Cabinet Meeting and will continue throughout the week, with other special commemorating events planned throughout the coming year.
Yet the present feeling in Jerusalem is far from what it was at that euphoric time.
By June 10, 1967, Israel had driven Egyptian forces from Gaza and the Sinai, Jordanian soldiers from Jerusalem , Judea and Samaria, and the Syrians from the Golan Heights.
Suddenly, to a shocked world, Israel was a nation to be reckoned with. Much of the ancient Biblical homeland of the Jews was back in their hands. To the religious-minded, the ancient prophecies seemed to actually be coming to pass; the future of a "Greater Israel" seemed a reality..
The Syrians, the Jordanians and the Egyptians were gone-but masses of Arab "Palestinians" remained. Uncertain of how to maintain a Jewish majority (and ignorant of the coming masses of Jewish immigration from the north), fearful of reaction from the nations, Israel, with the exception of Jerusalem, never officially annexed any of these "territories".
Since 1967 there have been three wars and two Palestinian uprisings.
Under continuous pressure from without, and from the excruciating reality within of being required to spread her limited military forces thin in order to maintain control over a Muslim populace not interested in being ruled by Jews, Israel's resolve regarding the territories began to weaken.
In the past twelve years, every administration -- Begin, Netanyahu, Barak, Sharon and Olmert - has considered releasing Israeli sovereignty in all of these regions, and in the case of Barak, even re-dividing the supposedly annexed eastern part of Jerusalem and the Temple Mount.
There is a rising pressure on Israel to return to the '67 borders.
Regarding "Reunified Jerusalem"-there is not a country which regards Jerusalem as the "undivided, eternal capital of Israel" strongly enough to allow their foreign embassy there-all embassies are in Tel Aviv. Other countries have foreign embassies in their capitals, there are none in Jerusalem.
This week the Foreign Ministry invited diplomats to attend a ceremony at the Knesset commemorating the 40th anniversary of reunification; neither the United States nor any of the E.U. chose to attend.
Meanwhile, the Jewish population in Jerusalem is shrinking-last year some 7,200 more Israelis left the city than moved into it. In the natural, the hopes of 40 years ago seem to have been severely misplaced.
But this is all seeing only a portion of the picture; Thank God, all that has been and is taking place has not been only what is visible to Israelis in the "natural."
Something incredible was released in the spirit world forty years ago when God allowed Israel to take Jerusalem - something which has germinated into a life which is growing in her midst, even while delusion, weakness and disorientation seem to hold sway on the surface.
*The years immediately following the '67 War saw the beginnings of a world-wide release of the Holy Spirit, one which transcended denominational bounds, releasing a new life and power in the Church.
*Birthed on the wave of the above and reaching into the streets and counterculture of the '60's, came the "Jesus Movement" which swept thousands of youth into the Kingdom.
*During this period Jews in the nations began coming to the Lord is large numbers. And they soon began discovering their identity in Messiah as being one with the Gentile Body-but still retaining their Jewish heritage, including the Covenant given to their Fathers regarding the Land of Israel.
As a result of these factors, there is now a growing living Jewish expression of the Body in Israel. There is a growing youth movement which loves the Lord.
Many of their spiritual "Abbas" and "Immas" (Fathers and Mothers) came to faith during the time mentioned above, immigrated to Israel - and are now seeing spiritual grandchildren rising up in the Land with a Song in their Hearts and a keen resolve to move out into the society and make a difference for Yeshua.
Interestingly, many Bible scholars see a Biblical "generation" as being 40 years.
With what God did 40 years ago IN Jerusalem to birth the present generation of believers in Israel, what may He be preparing to release as we move into this Second generation.
This week's Prophet reading includes Hosea 2:14-20.
I will allure her, will bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfort to her.I will take from her mouth the names of the Baals.I will betroth you to Me forever, in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy, I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the LORD.
As Israel moves past this landmark day,
PLEASE PRAY:
*For the Messianic remnant to be strengthened, to grow in maturity in the power and leading of the Holy Spirit.
*For the Body here to "Here what the Spirit is saying to the Congregations" at this time, and apprehend what He is about to release. Last week's portion from the Prophets included Jeremiah 17:5-8, where the LORD says that those who make flesh their strength are under a curse, and don't even recognize good when it comes.
But those who trust in the LORD will be like a tree planted by the waters, not anxious in years of drought, and never ceasing to bear fruit. Pray that we will trust in our LORD and not man-and not miss the Good when it comes!
*Tonight as part of the celebration, there is a rock concert in Independence Park called "Shaking the Walls". Pray for Israel to endure the shaking which is coming.
*For a powerful move of God among Israel's youth-which will burst the present glow into a roaring flame which will break loose across the world! In late June there will be an international "ONE THING" worship conference for youth in Jerusalem-preceding by a week "THE CALL" gathering on 7-07-07 in Nashville. Pray that God's Spirit will move in grace and powerful equipping during these times.
*Please pray for the safety of Jerusalem - especially this week, when many of her enemies are roused to resist the significance of what this date portends.
