We will now clearly see from the New Testament that the Law of Moses has been rendered inoperative by the death of Christ. This means the Law has no authority over any person, Jew or Gentile.
The first passage is Romans 10:4 where we are told that Christ is the end of the Law unto righteousness to everyone that believes. The Greek word for end means total cessation of any of its 613 commandments which had been the code of conduct for Israel for nearly 1700 hundred years.
Because of this Paul tells us in Galatians 2:16 that there is no justification through the Law but through only Jesus Christ. This deals with the fact that we had the perfect righteousness of Jesus placed to our account when we believed. We were in the red with billions of sins against us as unbelievers but when we trusted in the gospel the debt was removed forever and we were placed positionally in the black through the grace. of our LORD. This deals with the past aspect of our salvation.
Dealing with the present aspect of our salvation we are told in Hebrews 7:19 that there is no sanctification/perfection through the Law.
These passages make it evident the Law has ended in Christ as HE fulfilled all righteousness during HIS 33 and a half years with the penultimate statement HE made on the cross " It is finished"
Secondly, there was no intent of permanence for the Law was always meant to be temporary. We see this in Galatians 3:19 where Paul says it was added to the eternal Abrahamic Covenant revealed 430 years earlier till the promised SEED prophesied in the Abrahamic Covenant. If anyone wants a full exposition on any part of Galatians please let me know.
In the context of this verse, Paul makes it clear that the reason the Law was added was to make it very clear as to what sin is so that every person would understand that in and of themselves they always fall short of God's standard of righteousness. Now, from the Cross, that addition has ceased. In Hebrews 8:6 we are now under a better covenant, the New Covenant, which was given to Israel but into which we have been included, based on the blood sacrifice of Jesus.
Thirdly, with Christ, there is a new priesthood according to the Order of Melchizedek not according to the Order of Aaron. The Law of Moses only allowed for the Levitical priesthood of the tribe of Levi. For a new priesthood to operate the old covenant had to have ended. Please read Hebrews 7:11-12 and if possible to verse 18.Jesus in HIS humanity was of the tribe of Judah and if the law still existed Jesus could not be our High Priest. Interestingly the prophet Zechariah predicted many years earlier that ONE person would be both King and Priest, impossible under the Law. We see this in Zechariah 6:12-13.If you want a full study of any of these verses let me know. Please, please study them for they speak the fantastic, infallible Word of GOD. There are amazing truths brought out in these verses.
The writer to the Hebrews points out there is no perfection.possible under the Levitical priesthood and amplifies this in Hebrews 9 and 10. The writer explains that for the priesthood to change there needed to be a change of Law. Hebrews 7:18 states the Law of Moses has been annulled and the Greek word used for annulled is the same as that in Hebrews 9:26 that tells us the sins of the believers have been put away- ie finito, kaput. The Greek word is athetesis.
The fourth line of evidence is found in 2 Corinthians 3:2-11. Just in case there is no doubt Paul hones right into that part of the Law people try to keep and that is the 10 commandments of Exodus 20. Please read these verses and note the following. In verse 7 they are called "the ministration of death" and in verse 9 " the ministration of condemnation". These are negative but valid descriptions. The problem was that the Law was Holy but man is totally sinful. So the Law was perfect but the problem Paul reminds us in his epistles is man's imperfection. The problem was not the Law but what it had to deal with.
The main point he makes is that the Law, if still in force, would still ministry death and condemnation to us but we are under Grace which imparts righteousness and enables us to live godly lives.
So the clear thrust of the epistles Is that the Law of Moses, including the 10 commandments, have been rendered inoperative.
Please read Ephesians 2:11-16 and 3:6. The point Paul makes is that GOD has made certain covenants exclusively with the nation of Israel. In fact, there are 4 eternal unconditional covenants that God has made with the elect nation which is the Abrahamic, the Land, the Davidic and the New Covenant. All of God's blessings, spiritual and material, are mediated through these covenants, which are eternal and unconditional.
Paul all points out that God added a fifth covenant which was temporary and conditional. This was the Mosaic Covenant comprising the Mosaic Law. According to Ephesians 2:15 the Law of Moses served as a " Wall of partition" to keep the Gentiles away from enjoying Jewish spiritual blessings. In the Old Testament if a Gentile wished to become partakers of Jewish spiritual blessings he would have to take upon himself the entire obligation of the Law, be circumcised if a male, and live as any other Jew lived A great example is Uriah the Hittite. Only a Gentile proselyte to Biblical Judaism under the Law could enjoy the spiritual blessings of the Jewish Covenants.
Obviously, if the Law of Moses still applied then all the negative truths of these verses would still apply.
Now, however, we see the blessings of Ephesians 3:6 are a wonderful reality. Notice that the evil theology of Amillennialism Is a lie, just from.this verse.
The Church, far more evil than the nation of Israel, are not taker overs but partakers. I would recommend. anyone to get the teaching of Arnold on Romans 9-11 from Ariel Ministries.Strangely enough, he only teaches from the scriptures themselves!!
We see from the New Testament, therefore, that Hebrew and Gentiles are not under the Law of Moses. The new code since Acts 2 is called THE LAW OF CHRIST in Galatians 6:2 and in Romans 8:2 it is called THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE.
Of course, although the code of conduct for believers is different since Acts 2 than from Exodus 20 to the Cross, many of the 613 laws are in. The Law of Christ, but also many are not. We no longer offer blood sacrifices as Jesus is the final blood sacrifice for all sins. 9 of the 10 commandments of Exodus 20 have been included, all except the Sabbath law.
