[_ Old Earth _] Psychologists find using Bible therapeutic

.

It's good to see articles such as this.

Thanks Ian. :)

Here is the reprint of the article:

Darkness Is My Only Companion
Psychotherapy that uses Scripture without ignoring science.
Reviewed by Robertson McQuilkin | posted 08/07/2006 09:30 a.m.

Theologically sound and medically astute, this is a safe guide for those
who battle the darkness of mental illness and for those who care about
them. As a bonus blessing, the book is deeply moving and wrapped in a
package of delightful prose.

Greene-McCreight, an Episcopal priest, does what is so desperately
needed in our therapeutic societyâ€â€she practices psychotherapy under the
authority of Scripture. A careful theologian, fully committed to the
authority of Scripture, yet the beneficiary of healing therapy with an
astonishingly wide and deep understanding of the field, the author weds
the two convincingly. This is not a mere academic treatise, however.

The author invites us to join her in a journey through her own darkness,
opening every shadowed corner of her soul, yet without a trace of the
maudlin.

Also, I know many people on this board do not approve of Joyce Meyer,
However, regardless of those who don't approve of her methods,
I find her material very helpful in finding strength in
the word of God (scriptures) which are "specific" to overcoming your
past, depression, and lack of motivation.

My recommendations:

Where the Mind Goes the Man Follows

Worship Wind the War

Going Deeper In God

Keep on Walking When the Devil Is Stalking

This next one has helped many women & men who have had severe
emotional problems.

Battlefield of the Mind
This week she is repeating the broadcast.
You can listen to it here:
http://media4.joycemeyer.org:8080/ramge ... udio_en.rm

(The book, relatively inexpensive, Battlefield of the Mind is available
at amazon.com and other books stores or at her web site. You may even
be able to purchase a used copy or find it at the library to check out for
free) While I am on a fixed income, I'm not dishing out 130 for
the whole series! :-?

Here is a link to the months worth of her broadcasts:

Just time to say that Dr Jay Adams had been a pastor for several years when he felt he ought to train, qualify & work as a psychiatrist

Years later, God showed him that many long-term psychiatric patients were either no better. or even worse, than @ the start of their treatment

God challenged Jay to apply Bible principles

He found unprecedented improvement that inspired his book, 'Competent To Counsel' - taken from where the Bible says, 'The godly are competent to counsel'

('Apt/suitable to teach' is another translation of the original Greek there)

http://www.BibleGateway.org has a Bible concordance, if any reader wants to find it

God bless!
