I have some questions about building a website


1) Are there really free websites out there that you can build?


2) How do you get to the top of a search engine with your own website?

Yes, 110mb is one of the best of them, but it is always better to get paid hosting.

Google has some great features for search engine rankings (you'll most likely have to pay for them). When you code up your page, be sure to use <h1> etc, and stay away from tables unless you have to use them for tabular data. Use DIV's in you code. Apart from that I don't know much more, that area is not my speciality. Places like http://www.webdesignforums.net are great places to get specialised questions like this answered.

There are free web hosts where you can get your own sub-domain. One of mine is www.omegawebhelp.hostzi.com I'm in the process of building it. the flash template was free too.

You can find just about anything free if you take the time to look. I google everything. Free web hosts, free web templates, free website templates, etc.

You can submit your URL directly to google or yahoo.

Actually meta tags are quite outdated nowdays and don't do much at all to improve your search ranking. IMHO it's a waste of time. I've been told this by SEO experts in the industry.

Not quite sure, as I'm not an expert in SEO, but using <h1> tags and tags for important information can be usefull. webdesignforums.net have a great SEO section.

Since when? All the info I have received from places such as theadminzone.com (for forums) and the wordpress forums suggest otherwise.

1st Tip: Paid Hosting is much better than free.
2nd Tip: What do you hope to search for to receive 1st page standings on google?
Do not hope to get a first page position for something like "best website". You will need to find a niche for your website to fill. If you find that niche, gear your site to that as a goal of yours. Once it gets a high page rank (PR) in google and Alexis as well, broaden your goal.

I brought my page rank up from 0 to 2 within 3 months.. I know you can do it.. (I know that the little PR doesn't mean anything.. but it is still something to go by. So I use it to set my goals)

Check out theadminzone.com and look for SEO optimization or something similar. They ought to give you tips.. Most tips are geared more towards forums or blogs but you ought to be able to use some for normal websites as well. CAUTION: theadminzone is not a Christian site. I cannot assure you that all words and text will be wholesome.

Yes, you can build a free site at webnode.com, although if you exceed a certain bandwidth, you must pay. Better is to pay for hosting that allows unlimited add on domains. (hostgator $9.95/mo plan or something similar). Then, each additional site costs only the $9/year domain registration fee (almost free).

With regard to good rankings, you need to publish content that has great value and is unique or better than anything else. Eventually you get a top ranking. Do a search in google for "SEO tutorial" or "Search Engine Optimization Tips" and you will find a lot.
