I have an iPod touch and I believe it's a generation 4...?
Anyways, I haven't been able to update the iOS on it in ages. There are some apps I can't download because I don't have iOS 8. Whenever I go to update it under system settings, it says that iOS 6.1.6 is current. Trying to update it through iTunes on my computer says the same thing.

Is this generation of iPod just not able to use iOS 8 or something?

I can't believe I didn't see this. I still have a 4th gen iPod Touch and use it quite regularly, although it is often difficult and frustrating to use. Your OS is current. They are incapable of the latest OS because it is 64-bit and the 4th gen is only 32-bit. I am so hoping that the 6th gen comes out this year. I was very disappointed that it didn't come out last fall.

Makes sense.
I can't afford to buy any new gens, I'll stick with this one. It's best not to get any more apps on it anyway, it's really slowed down since I first got it.
