I used to think somewhat highly of Ravi and listened to him frequently; however, as has happened to me so often, I came to realize that he was (IMHO) overly stylistic and even a bit pompous. This is just my opinion but he seems more focused on his intellectual style rather than genuine godliness and humility.

Nevertheless, for newbies, along with the caveat that they will likely eventually outgrow those whom they now adore, there may be some benefit to listening to his discussions. My recollection is that he employs mostly standard traditional theistic apologetics (but we all have to start somewhere...)

Best,
Anth

I love listening to Ravi when I have time, Brian, and I will check these out when there isn't so much activity going on in the house. I listened to the radio as a young woman and mother a lot in my home, and he was very inspiring to my walk and my ministry to my family and neighbors. I may have disagreed with him at times, but I do not consider him to be divisive. Anyway, I have always been blessed by his ministry, and some who minister along with him. I'll give you some feed back on the videos later. The Lord bless you.

Those are pretty harsh words. You are going to have to back them up with facts.

Ravi is a very Godly man with saving souls at the heart of his ministry.

What good does it do you or anyone to talk of him in such a way?

Thankyou lovely!! I agree 100%

Hi Brian

This is just my opinion - nothing more. Maybe I could pick up some better words to describe the same concept. If you have any suggestions, I am open.

My feeling is that he is in love with his intellectual style - and sort of works to embellish that. Admittedly, I have been known to do the same - perhaps that is why it is so evident to me.

I found less and less genuinely meaningful substance as time went on. I guess that happens after you listen to anyone for a while - I used to be pretty high on Charles Stanley. Now I find him pretty worthless really - just a lot of religious words without any substance. Sorry to say. Maybe this is what happens as we get older and have seen it all, heard it all, etc.

I am not suggesting that people don't check out Ravi's schtick - I think some exposure would be positive. Just not to get too excited because the glamour is going to wear off.

Best,
Anth

Speaking of pompous....

As I have already freely admitted above.... ;)

Perhaps my only redemption is that I don't make living off of the name of Jesus....

Brian,

I think you had asked for facts - the following won't support my "mild" stylistic disparagement earlier.

First - I appreciate RZ for his introduction to subjects that you would not commonly hear from the pulpit - this was my initial attraction. Certainly Nietsche was a powerfully brilliant man (talk about stylistic pompousness.... :clap :crazy ) - so it was nice to get a snippet from him.

RZ attacks the atheist via his professor N Geisler as one who is always attacking, etc. The problem is that atheism, in light of a stunningly theistic culture, is presumably acting as any philosophy would in its nascent state where it is the small minority. I wonder if we looked at Luther we would find a great deal of his work as slash and burn????

I also noticed that he assumed a "Christian" nation in his response to Sam Brown (though Sam did, admittedly, "start it". It is obvious that the USA never has been and never will be and never should be a "Christian" nation - whatever that might be construed to be.

That is as far as I have gotten - time to go to the garden, where, as I recall, Father originally put us.

Peace,
Anth

re: Moral Law

This wraps up Video 1. Obviously an very traditional approach - I have used it myself. Regardless, I now strongly suspect that it is a straw man - easy to pass on to an uneducated audience who are without the benefit of someone to respond to sophistry.

For one, I never see it used - that I am aware - in scripture. I strongly suspect there is a meaningful response - I would love to see Hitchens on the subject - in fact, I would love to see Hitchens and RZ together. Perhaps someone has a YouTube of this?? I know that I have always been disappointed with Dinesh - I could run over him myself and I am barely educated in these matters.

BTW - I am quite willing to be disabused of any and all of my notions - they are, admittedly, ill-formed (=I have not spent much time with them - and not whatsoever for getting onto two decades) and not formal conclusions - only hypotheses needed testing/review, etc.

Regardless, Brian - I appreciate you posting these - a little food for thought on other than simply scriptural review. I did heed your words and slightly edited my original disparagement of RZs presentation method - you may find this version somewhat more comfortable.

Best,
Anth

Anth,

I find your posts mind boggling at times. What's your motivation for standing up for non-christian things and attacking christians who are doing good?

I saw no proof whatsover in your claims. If you want to go after false prophets, go after Joel Olsteen, Jorce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Benny Hinn,etc...and the whole word of faith movement...sheesh.... :crazy

I also find it very discouraging that ref keep referring to this as some sort of thing for "simple minded" thinking. I resemble that remark!!!! :-)

Things aren't that complicated to me.

Brian - I appreciate your feedback.

Please consider that your criticisms - HARSH criticisms I might add ("false prophets" were to be stoned to death, right... :-) ) - would be met with equal confusion and push-back from those Christians who think "the world" of the above individuals....and that these individuals are anointed, doing a great work of God, edifying them... yada, yada, yada....

Interesting the various perspectives - isn't it....

I found the part when he mentioned Hobart Mauer writing that when we did away with sin we lost the definition of ourselves very interesting. Then Mr Zacharaias goes on to say the person of Christ, as He reveals God, is also affected by this and the absolutes that exist in Him. I think the idea that evil, justice, love and forgiveness all converged at the cross is true.

Thanks for posting this, Brian, I was blessed by taking the time to listen today.

You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed it lovely! :-)
