I SAMUEL 4

21 And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.

22 And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.

THE WORST WORD IN THE BIBLE

There are thousands of words in the holy bible, all inspired or God breathed by God himself through human authors.

2 Peter 1

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

I hear that the name given to most children in the world today is Mohammed, hardly anyone calls their child Ichabod and for good reason.

Actually some churches, need to be called Ichabod, for the glory has departed from them, the glory of the Lord has disappeared, the Ark of God is in another place.

Do you remember what Jesus said to the so called doctrinally astute, service focused Ephesian church, they had everything lined up correctly, they had all their doctrine right, their service and discernment were spot on nigh perfect and yet he had one thing against them, they had lost their first love.

Revelation 2

2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Jesus told them to remember and repent or else, he would remove their candlestick.

In the UK, there are many churches, that have been turned into community centres and various other uses, some in fact, have become places where other so-called faiths meet.

These were once thriving centres of worship, where the gospel was preached, where Jesus was uplifted, but now they are a shell, their candlestick has been taken away.

The sad thing is that a church can go on, in a normal way and still not know the glory has departed. The church like Samson can shake itself and say, we will operate as we have always done, but he and they don't realise that the Lord has left them.

Judges 16

20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the Lord was departed from him.

Could Ichabod, be placed over your life?
Could it be placed over mine?

This was Paul's greatest fear that after he had preached to others, he would become a castaway.

1 Corinthians 9

1 Corinthians 9:27
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

I pray none of us, reading this devotion, has the name Ichabod, written over our lives, the shell is there, but the glory is departed.

If this is the greatest fear of the Apostle Paul, it surely must be ours.

I pray that no church pastor reading this, says ' we will carry on as before, keep doing the things, we have always done", not realising the glory has departed.

May none of us, have ICHABOD written over our lives.

God bless you
