titus 2:14

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Here we have the apostle Paul giving us to understand the value and efficaciousness of being redeemed by the blood of Christ. For the redemption was for the purpose of causing good works from the ones being redeemed.. Jesus Christ redeeming blood is the basis for becoming a new creation, created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God before hand prepared that we [ the redeemed] should walk therein..eph 2:

8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

The good works in eph 2 10 and the good works in titus 2 14 are the same..

So redemption brings about the accomplishment of the foreordained good works God created us for..

In Isa 43 1 we see the connection again with redemption and creation:

But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

Now back to titus 2 14, the word redeem here is the greek word:

lytro? which means:

) to release on receipt of ransom
2) to redeem, liberate by payment of ransom
a) to liberate
b) to cause to be released to one's self by payment of a ransom
c) to redeem
d) to deliver: from evils of every kind, internal and external

To be redeemed is to be delivered, released, liberated from all the evil consequences of sin and death, the works of the devil, occurring when man [ in Adam] sinned against God.

At that time, man became by nature a captive to the devil..[ 2 tim 2:26]

But notice as one of the definitions of redeem implies, redemption is the deliverance from all internal evil too..

This deliverance is accomplished by giving the redeemed a new creation, to give them a new birth, a new man per eph 4:24

And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

This was Gods purpose in the death of Christ, to create anew those whom Jesus Christ redeemed through His blood..

The shall of the redeemed Isa 51:11

Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

The redeem of the LORD shall return to God, from where we apostatized from Him in our natural head Adam..but the death of Christ returns us back to God 1 pet 3:18

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Who are the us here peter is referring to ? Why its the elect of God 1 pet 1:

1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

2Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Who are the us in titus 2 14 where it says that He might redeem us ? Why its the elect of God per titus 1:

1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

Peter writes this about the effects of the redeeming blood of Christ 1 pet 1:

18Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Here a great truth is set before us, and that is, the elect needed to be redeemed from their vain conversation..

What is this peter is talking about ?

The word vain is the greek word:

mataios which means:

devoid of force, truth, success, result

2) useless, of no purpose

The word conversation is the word:

anastroph? and means:

manner of life, conduct, behaviour, deportment

The blood of Christ delivers/ redeems His elect from a useless manner of life, be it immoral or false religion..

Paul wrote in galations Gal 1:

13For ye have heard of my conversation [manner of life] in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:

You see, Paul experienced the power of the redeeming blood on the road to damascus, and how it delivered him or redeemed him from His vain manner of life, and brought about the good works he had been redeemed to be zealous of from here on out..

And so it is with all who were redeemed by the blood of Christ, it delivers us from all evil, both externally and internally..and causes us to perform ordained good works !

All those who have been legally redeemed , shall be experimentally redeemed as well, by giving or impartation of holiness, by the Spirit of Holiness, because the blood of Christ has fully met every claim of God against His people, so then, its virtues and purifying effects are applied to them by the Spirit .. 1 pet 1:

2Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling [or application] of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

This was not a mans freewill thing, but A Divine Work of the Triune God, a benefit of having a High Priest in Heaven making intercession for those He redeemed by His blood..

Deal with the thread, you have not addressed anything ..

sbg57,

The testimony of Jesus Christ through the words of Scripture given unto me is the same as the words given unto you. I was not speaking as an adversary to your post, but in support of the good works of grace that have been ordained from the beginning.

Let us be at peace in the fellowship of Jesus' sufferings.

No they are not..

titus 2:14

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

The word that is a interesting word here ! Its the greek word hina which actually means " in order that' denoting purpose, in other words, Christ giving of Himself for us [ titus 1:1-2] the elect, was in order to or for the purpose of, releasing us from all iniquity and to purify us unto Himself..

That He might redeem us, this phrase is in the subjunctive mood, which is the mood for possibility or potentiality, the action described may or may not occur depending on circumstances and conditions ! Well the circumstances and conditions have been met by the Christ giving of himself for His people, therfore the resulting effects or actions are Twofold # A redeeming takes place [ 1 pet 1:18-19] and secondly a purifying takes place [heb 9:14]

So these are purposed effects of the blood of Christ, of which he gave of Himself..

The works that have been ordained from the foundation of the world are the works of Jesus' sufferings and the image of Jesus' works fulfilled in us through the earnest of the Spirit of sufferings, preparing us to dwell among the everlasting burnings in the fellowship of the sufferings of the Father and the Son.

Thus we who have the firstfruits of the spirit groan within ourselves waiting for the adoption. And the spirit makes intercession for us with groanings. These groanings were ordained before time.

Love groans in suffering. Suffering it to be so. For the benefit of the children.

One of the good works God created the elect new for, is the work of Faith..that is to walk by Faith..

The act of Faith or believing is a work, and thats why believing or faith cannot Justify the elect, and if we be Justified by our believing or act of Faith, then we are Justified by works..That Faith or the act of believing is a work appears Here:

1 jn 3:

23And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

24And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

To obey a command is a work: And to believe is to obey a command, Faith is an obeying of the will of God per heb 11:

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went

So Faith, believing is a good work..

When Christ has died for one, His blood is active on their behalf, the redemption they gave through His blood is beyond the forgiveness of their sins, which is a great blessing, but His redemption actually converts sinners, rescues them from a life of bondage to satan, so that they will live for God Titus 2:

14Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Amen, His giving himself for us [ which are the elect see titus 1:1-2] produces a life of zealousness for good works.. So of course faith is given as a effect of redemption by the blood.

1 pet 1:

18Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from[ek] your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

Redemption actually redeems those Christ died for from a vain conversation which means [manner of life] and [conduct or behaviour]

So, ther blood alone produces those effects, redemption does that to the Glory of God..

The blood redeems us out from a spiritually worthless lifestyle, which was dead in trespasses and sins, even if we were religious, for it [His blood], such religions from dead sinners is called dead works as per heb 9:

14How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Again, redemption = a life unto serving the Living God, the True Living God.

Rev 5:

9And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

10And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Again, another passage that shows unmistakably that its by the blood we are redeemed unto God into a life of service, that is becoming spiritual Kings and Priests ..

This is the magic of the blood on its own, one is not required to do anything to activate this saving purpose of the blood, they as conditions do not have to accept the blood , for God hath accepted it for Christ sake, they do not have to believe in Christ as a condition to be redeemed, all conditions that needed to be met in order for the blood of Christ to work its magic so to speak, and bring to pass lives Glorifying to God, was Christ shedding His blood..

sbg,

Here are some more valuable witnesses concerning redemption/salvation and works. You may have already referenced them on this thread (or other threads), but the Lord put it in my heart to bundle these together at this place for the edification of his Body.

Eph 2:8-10
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. KJV

1 Cor 15:10
10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.KJV

Phil 2:12-13
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. KJV

Heb 13:20-21
20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. KJV

1 Cor 9:16-19
16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. KJV

May the Lord give the ministry of this present day to not abuse their power in the gospel.
