Is a person a permanent adulterer if they get ilegally divorced according to Matt 5:31,32.

Matt 5: 31 "It was said, `Whoever divorces his wife must give her a get.' 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, makes her an adulteress; and that anyone who marries a divorcee commits adultery.

I believe so. I believe that they are forgiven for the transgression, but God does not remove the uncleaness and profanity of the union. He does not ever consider it a holy covenant or give it His approval. Hence, it is a permanent state of adultery and God never removes the shame. I can recall that God never allowed Bathsheba to be called David's wife and God did not hide David's sin even in the Second Covenant.

Mt 1:6 -Yishai was the father of David the king. David was the father of Shlomo (his mother was the wife of Uriyah), God let it stand that Uriah would never be dishonored and David would never be approved and honored before God in his union with Bathsheba.

I raise this issue because the divorce rate for christians is higher than aitheist and secularist. Most Christians polled did not believe it was a sin to divorce someone because of irreconcilable differences. They did not believe that adultery was the only way out of a marriage covenant.

There is no such thing as divorce. In marriage, two become one.

Half of one is a half.
