Of course! Even if we disagree with someone--even if we hate what they do or say--without treating them with respect there's no way we could ever reach them for Christ.

Isn't that more about them than you? I think in today's society people have come to expect "tolerance" which they have been erroneously taught that that means "agreement" when indeed it does not.
Along with our real rights as humans, and citizens of a country, some people try to add the right to not be offended. I'm sure you agree that no such right exists.
Some people may need validation in what they believe, not having assurance that their beliefs are accurate.
How they react should have no effect upon what we know to be truth, and how we believe. It's important to step back and not take anything said personally, because while some truly do mean to insult you, they really aren't arguing with you, but themselves and maybe even with God. ;)
Don't respond. Don't feed their argumentative behavior. If no one responds to them in trying to get them to "see" then they will not have anything to argue about.
