Don’t listen to Biblical scholars. Listen to righteous people.

It appears that, as per your most recent post, you agree that to set "righteous people" in contrast to "Biblical scholars" is a false "either-or" - there can, and indeed are, righteous Bible scholars.

Yes, I am sure there are.

No doubt. But how can you tell?

I'm not sure. I don't think it matters. Each of us should read the words of Jesus and obey them.

We musn't let biblcal scholars do our thinking for us. Too often, I suspect, they are looking for ways to get around obeying Christ's commandments. We need to obey them, even if a biblical scholar says it's not necessary.

Awesome. This reads like an IM chat so far. The responses are so... short and concise. I also like the "But how can you tell?.... I'm not sure" exchange - so candid. I could swear we were all just sitting in a livingroom actually talking to each other. I digress though.

I think the lesson is: Read the Bible for yourself, and obey the words therein. If that turns into a pursuit of scholarship so be it. But scholarship without obedience is akin to Pharisaism and being like their scribes or doctors of the law who may have a key of knowledge but do not enter in, nor lift a finger to obey their own commands.
